A Load-Bearing Plate That Gives Anchor Installers a Hard Time

This is a PC pressure plate.

The thing that's such a hassle is that it's just so heavy, you know? lol

It's so heavy, you'd wonder, "How many trips will it take to move this?!" You can only fit about two of them on a 4-metric-ton truck!

Generally speaking, I get the impression that when using this PC pressure plate, we mainly use products that weigh about 2 metric tons each.

 

Furthermore, if the backfill isn't done properly, in the worst-case scenario, the structure could crack due to uneven load distribution.

I’m sure quite a few of you have cracked this pressure plate—I cracked one myself a long time ago (lol).

I was all, “This much unevenness should be fine!” and was feeling so confident—but then, just as I got nervous, it snapped with a loud crack!

Of course, since it’s made of PC concrete, it’s quite strong, but it appears to have been subjected to a significant concentrated load.

It could even crack under temporary tension...

You need to be very careful, as the PC pressure plates could chip if they collide with each other.

Also, because of its weight, it is essential to thoroughly check the working radius of the rough-terrain crane; depending on the situation, it may not be possible to set it up.

 

When you consider things like transportation and installation, steel pressure plates really are the easiest option.

You can fit a lot of them on a truck, so they're easy to transport, and you can install them all at once and temporarily secure them with anchor pins.

The intended use is the same whether it's made of steel or PC; ultimately, it just needs to serve as a compression plate, and

When you think about it, a lighter one is definitely more convenient and easier in many ways, lol.

Of course, there's also the designers' intent to consider.

 

Well, from the perspective of materials manufacturers and government agencies, they might think, “PCs are cheap, so this is the way to go!” but,

From a construction standpoint, steel really can’t be beat when it comes to workability.

I really wish they'd stop making those huge PC load-bearing plates with such thin edges (about 100 mm) lol
