Let's Inflate the Packer | Proof-of-Concept Experiment

I imagine packers are often used in ground anchor construction.

I don't think I've ever really seen that part of the packer bulge out.

Even if I did see it, I think it would only be the end of the free-length side.

Take a look at what it's actually like.

When pressure is applied to the packer, the fabric on its surface absorbs moisture, causing the grout inside to become more concentrated.

That's why the surface becomes rock-hard.

As you can see, the non-pressurized version is just as it looks.

That said, in the case of ground anchors, they are always installed pointing downward, so the very bottom of the anchor is subjected to pressure.

Since pressure is always applied to the anchoring section, there will be no problems as long as the sealant is injected thoroughly.

Packer Pressurization

Although there is a significant difference in size between pressurized and unpressurized conditions, once the borehole is actually drilled, the borehole will not expand beyond its diameter within the surrounding rock.

 

If the pressure gauge hadn't broken, I could have done more experiments, but there was nothing I could do at the time, so this is the only video I have.
