As for future measures, here’s some information from a professional cliff climber.

To those living in areas that experienced even slight shaking and who have a mountain behind or beneath their home:

When it rains, the rain seeps into the loosened soil on the mountain.

When rain seeps in, the mountain becomes heavy with water and begins to crumble.

It might freeze due to the cold, but even so, it will be no more than about 1 meter.

The remaining water either accumulates underground or is discharged as a result of landslides.

Please be sure to keep an eye on the recent rain, as well as the rain and temperatures to come.

1. If there is a mountain behind your home, evacuate as soon as possible.

2. Stay in the shelter for a few days even after the rain stops.

3. If it starts to rain and you see murky water, evacuate immediately (dangerous conditions).

4. If it starts to rain and you see small rocks or other objects falling, evacuate immediately (dangerous conditions).

5. Be cautious if it starts to rain in early spring after an earthquake (evacuate if possible)

6. Be cautious in areas affected by ground freezing after an earthquake in early spring

7. Rain may seep into the loosened areas, freeze there, and cause the structure to collapse in the spring.

8. Inspect the mountain and be careful if you find any cracks.
