When you're working as a subcontractor, there are some areas where you just can't compete.

It's just the name recognition of a major company, lol.

 

There's no way I can win, but it still feels kind of frustrating.

I think we have more experience with standard construction methods. (Specialized methods are a different story.)

Even so, there’s a world of difference between what the big companies say and what we say.

Well, there's no point in trying to reach beyond my means—I just have to keep overcoming the challenges right in front of me.

The fact that I still find myself thinking things like this means I still have a long way to go. I’ll keep working hard to improve.


But that's beside the point.

Spray-Applied Coating

We received a question regarding the simultaneous installation of the frame and the mortar within the frame.

I'm going to try writing about that.

 

As far as I'm concerned, there's no problem. (This is just my personal opinion.)

There are no guidelines that specifically state you must play in separate parts.

Based on experience, when applying mortar within a formwork, we spray it all at once.

I’ve never been told anything by the local government, and I’ve never had a request to spray like this rejected based on the construction plan.

 

In terms of quality, since cold joints don’t form at the interface between the frame and the cross-section within the frame, cracks are less likely to develop, right?

After all, we're spraying the same mortar at the same time.

If the specifications call for a formwork frame made of mortar with concrete inside the frame, we will change the concrete inside the frame to mortar with the client’s approval and proceed with construction.

Government agencies are more likely to approve requests if the amount is on the higher side.

 

Some people say that it’s impossible to measure the as-built dimensions of a legal framework, but that’s not true—it can definitely be done.

If you absolutely must measure the formwork height, measure it while the formwork is being assembled, and then measure it again at the same location after the spray application; this will allow you to measure both the formwork height and the thickness of the sprayed material inside the formwork at the same time.

There are countless ways to do this, depending on how you interpret it.

 

However, the important thing to keep in mind when spraying inside the frame isThey tend to be relatively thinThat's it.

Since they're blown at the same time, they appear visually thicker.

In such cases, ensure sufficient thickness by installing as many spacers as possible or by placing a spacer at the point that protrudes the most within the frame.

Please be careful about the thickness within the frame.

 

This is just my personal opinion, but I firmly believe that simultaneous spraying is definitely the better option in cold regions with high moisture content or on slopes.

And I think the best method is to just let it blow without using a hair dryer attachment.

Whenever I see a slope like that, the surface is always damaged by frost heave.

The boundary between the frame and the area inside it is clearly defined.

I'll introduce that next time, too.

 

In a situation like this, if someone else is already doing it, I’d have the courage to give it a try, but as long as there are no issues with quality or the end result, I think it’s worth experimenting with different approaches.

In fact, constructing both the frame and the interior simultaneously can shorten the construction schedule.

Construction is carried out based on the construction plan, so it comes down to how you (the supervisor) want to carry it out.

I believe our mission is to create high-quality products while adhering to the minimum requirements set forth in specifications and special notes.
