Hello, everyone.
This is Enta.
I was working in Nagano the whole time last week, and there was something that made me realize just how inadequate I am.
My lower back had been hurting all week, so I called for a massage.
The reason my back hurts is that I've been doing a lot of desk work lately and have been sitting in a chair the whole time.
I was really stuck on that for a while lol
The hotel doorbell rang—ding-dong—and I opened the door and said, “Come on in.”
So I lay down on the bed right away, but since he didn't come in at all and the door closed, I went to open it again.

And as soon as he walks in, he steps on every single one of my shoes and indoor slippers, so,
I get a massage, thinking to myself, “There sure are some strange people out there.”
Also, that person is really good at giving massages.
It's done so skillfully that it feels both painful and pleasurable, lulling you to sleep.
Before we knew it, 60 minutes had passed, and the session was over.
So when I saw the massage therapist’s face, I was taken aback!
The massage therapist was both blind and deaf.
At that moment, I
"I can see, but I don't see a thing!"
I was stunned.
At my own inadequacy.
People who can see seem to see, but they don't really see.
I got the feeling that there must be a lot of people who haven't seen it.
I'm one of them, too.
Even though we think we're paying attention, we end up overlooking important things.
I don't know what it was, but I should have realized it at the time when I saw him walking around in his shoes or slippers.
After all, there was a chance they could have tripped over it and gotten hurt.
This is a lack of imagination.
I had just taken it for granted without even realizing it.
It's what's known as the "normalcy bias."

This applies to the workplace as well.
For everyday life, too.
It’s important for us to be a little more imaginative as we consider possibilities in all areas, while also taking a close look at the situation.
Doing so will minimize accidents and other problems as much as possible.
You think you're looking, but you're not really seeing! That's exactly why you need to look closely!
I’d like to make a conscious effort to keep that in mind.
See you later.
