I’d like to see “Zabuton” frames combined with leveling mats become the standard solution for addressing unevenness in ground anchor construction!

I believe that when using a compression plate in ground anchor construction, a "zabuton" frame is employed.

The standard mix for this zabuton frame is a lean mortar (1:8 to 1:10), but

In practice, we use either standard 1:4 mortar or, at most, 1:6 mortar for the work.

The reason is that there’s a risk of it cracking or flaking off when weight is applied, so it’s been installed very securely lol

Since the zabuton frame settles into place while cracking slightly, it’s okay if it cracks a little, but I doubt the local government would allow that.

For this reason, we will use materials that ensure sufficient strength during construction.

 

Of course, we’ll finish the surface much smoother and flatter than the natural unevenness of the ground, but even so, there will still be a difference of about 1 cm.

I think even a professional plasterer would end up with a difference of about 0.5 mm.

Compression-bearing Structures; Backfill Material

We used to use Styrofoam, but since it isn't weather-resistant and deteriorates, we don't use it anymore.

Laying a weather-resistant mat ensures that the load-bearing plate and zabuton frame are securely in contact, allowing the load to be effectively transferred to the natural ground.

 

If there is no gap, it means that gaps have formed in some areas, resulting in uneven load distribution.

Structurally speaking, there aren't really any major issues with the load-bearing plate, but ideally, we'd like to distribute the load evenly across its surface, right?

You must use a weather-resistant mat, or it will deteriorate over time (due to UV rays) and rot,

The load may be released.

I would like the zabuton frame and weather-resistant mat for leveling uneven surfaces to be included as standard features.

Filling gaps with mortar is merely a temporary fix to pass inspections; it is not a permanent solution. (It’s just for appearance.)

If possible, I recommend a mat.

Making design changes after the fact is a real hassle in so many ways, isn't it? lol
