Here's the status of the final inspection!

Me 18 years ago lol

It says "August Heisei 14," so that's the year 2002.

He's really young—only 26.

 

Around that time, I used to get incredibly nervous before taking exams.

I would have my seniors and supervisors review the documents I’d drafted, then revise them repeatedly until they were finalized.

I remember getting really annoyed at that senior who didn't say anything at the time but brought it up later, as if he were backtracking lol

I was so nervous the night before the exam that I couldn't sleep, lol.

Although the project mainly involved work to stabilize steep slopes, I remember struggling on that site because it was a comprehensive job that included earthwork, paving, ground anchors, rock bolts, and slope stabilization—pretty much the full range of tasks.

What’s more, there was a river right below us, and repairs were being made to the riverbank.

Back then, I didn't know the first thing about earthwork, so I was just full of anxiety, lol.

It felt like he didn't want to be asked for more details.

I remember that after I finished that job, I started studying earthwork in earnest, and suddenly I found being a site supervisor a lot more enjoyable.

Looking back now, I realize that instead of tackling unpleasant tasks bit by bit, getting them all done at once really lowers the mental barrier I have toward my work.

I think that by trying to do things that go one or two steps beyond your comfort zone, you can experience personal growth and the joy that comes with it.

Anxiety and excitement go hand in handThat's it.

You'll get to experience that moment when the sense of accomplishment turns into pure joy, right?

Back then, I was really wondering if I could actually handle this job, so the sense of relief and accomplishment I felt when the inspection was over was off the charts!!

 

Lately, I’ve been working mainly as a subcontractor, so I hardly ever have to undergo inspections.

There’s a final inspection for first-tier subcontractors, but I almost never go, lol.

That said, since there’s nothing particularly nerve-wracking about the final inspection, knowing I can handle it calmly kind of takes the fun out of it, lol.

As you get older and gain more experience, the meaning of "heart-pounding excitement" changes. (Heart palpitations and shortness of breath, lol)

 

Every now and then, we need to find things that make us feel that way.

Well, I wonder if it's time to try something new? lol
