Switching to Full-Body Harnesses Going Forward | My Former Boss's Construction Site in Gifu

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

The other day, my former boss invited me to a major company in Gifu, so I went there.

My former boss asked me to go there because he wanted me to offer my opinion as an anchor and my suggestions as a technical expert.

Since that situation is going to continue, I’ll just handle this thing by doing this and that in a vague sort of way (I can’t go into details here).

While past achievements and experience never let you down, it’s still necessary to constantly learn new skills.

I hope to propose new technologies and methods so that we can effectively convey the general contractor’s requests to the government agency.

However, I'm happy that it looks like I'll be able to work in Gifu again after such a long time.

The first construction site where I served as a site representative for the general contractor was in Gifu.

That was definitely a total disaster on set, lol.

But that's beside the point.

Does everyone know this move?

"Study Group on the Appropriate Regulation of Fall Protection Equipment"

This is a study group that has been operating at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare since last year.

So, to get straight to the point,In the future, safety harnesses will increasingly be full-body harnesses!

The following is a copy-and-paste.

"Conventional waist-belt-style safety harnesses can cause internal injuries due to the impact of a fall,
Risks such as chest compression have been pointed out, and
Even within Japan, accidents involving the use of waist belts have occurred
This has been confirmed.
On the other hand, international standards and the like do not specify the waist belt type, but rather,
Full-Body Harness Type*1*Since this protective gear is used,
In this report,
"From the perspective of protecting the body in the event of a fall, full-body harnesses should be used as a general rule."*2*
"It was described as such."

*1 Protective gear designed to support the wearer's body at multiple points, such as the shoulders and thighs
*2 When working at a height where a person wearing a full-body harness-type fall protection device could reach the ground in the event of a fall,
The use of fall-arrest protective equipment of the waist belt type that meets certain standards is permitted.

Full-Body Harness Type

As for when this trend began,

Revisions to relevant laws and regulations are scheduled to take place from fiscal year Heisei 29 through fiscal year Heisei 30.

It states:

And, a domestic safety equipment manufacturer’sSchedule (Tentative)But that's just a tentative plan, lol.

Stages Time Schedule Details
[Stage 1] Around February 2019– New Standard Products Now Available
[Step 2] Around August 2019– Discontinuation of Current Standard Products
[Stage 3] Throughout 2021 Prohibition on the Use of Standard Products

Since the slope is more than 2 meters high, it looks like we'll need to use full-body harnesses for most of the work.

This is a measure designed to prevent deaths caused by safety harnesses—which are meant to save lives—but what form will these safety harnesses take for us slope workers?

This is a very important point.

Will it make my work easier? Or will it be hard to use...?

Under normal circumstances, it would probably be the latter, but...

I'll let you know again as soon as I have any new information.

See you later.
