Implementing the Foreign Technical Intern Training Program (Part 5) | Home Visits

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

I returned safely from Vietnam the other day, but I'm really exhausted.

We'll depart for Japan around midnight and arrive around 6:00 a.m.

Sunrise

The sunrise is absolutely beautiful, but I'm still half-asleep.

I'm sitting here trying to sleep, but I'm not really sure if I'm asleep or not lol

And that's when work began... It was super tough.

But that's beside the point.

After the Interview

I don't think I'll have many opportunities to meet with successful candidates after their interviews under the Foreign Technical Intern Training Program.

That's because the people in charge at the companies sometimes go back to their home countries or go on vacation? lol

I think the next time we meet will be after I come to Japan.

On this occasion, I had the opportunity to meet with the successful candidates and their families.

Well, it's kind of like a home visit.

Family

I don't think most unions have this, but,

If your company plans to hire foreign nationals through a trainee program, please be sure to go visit their families!

I highly recommend it.

I think it's much more meaningful than just going sightseeing.

I’ve been talking to various families, and every one of them has high hopes for their son (or daughter)!

And I’ll also make a request of my family—that they support me so I can give it my all.

Only two out of four people came to the home visit this time. That’s because the other two lived so far away—it would’ve required a plane ride—so I gave up on them, lol.

However, the two families I visited lived in pretty rural areas, and it took about two hours each way to get there lol.

I was a little moved to see what real life is like in rural Vietnam.

Even though I only make about 2 kan a month, they still serve me fruit and things like that.

Even if there are a few dozen flies swarming around my food, I'll still eat it with a smile!

Fruit

That said, it was so delicious that I ended up eating quite a bit lol

Come to think of it, I just remembered that when I was little, back at my parents' house in Kagoshima, there were always so many flies on the fruit we ate.

As I ate one after another while swatting away flies with my hand, memories of how delicious they were came flooding back!

To think that the gesture of swatting a fly would bring that back to mind... We were really broke back then, too, lol.

There were plenty of unpaved roads in Kagoshima, too, and since there were cows in the neighborhood, there were a lot of flies.

There was dog poop all over the place back then, and I used to step in it all the time~ lol

That's what the countryside in Vietnam was like. Does that bring back some old memories?

I asked the successful candidate’s wife all sorts of questions, and she asked me some too; I showed her where we live and the company’s website.

His wife looked a little lonely, but she told me she’d make sure to see him off. (His mother was away on business.)

Wow, that was really a great experience.

Families of Foreign Technical Intern Trainees

At the end, we took a photo together, like a family portrait, but it’s not that I’m tall—it’s just that Vietnamese people are petite.

I'm 172 cm tall, so please get a sense of my height from the photo.

But his wife is beautiful! Many Vietnamese girls have fair skin and are cute. That's true!

And with that, we even received a souvenir, bringing the first stop to a close.

Tomorrow is the second one, isn't it?

By the way, I went from Japan to Vietnam wearing work clothes and safety shoes. I totally looked like a contractor, lol.

See you later.
