We're using drill bits to drill holes, right?
This is what it looks like when it's brand new.

This is a standard ring bit.
I want to use this for as long as possible, but I also want to drill the hole as quickly as possible.
That's why we tend to apply quite a bit of pressure when drilling.
The tip is made of tungsten.
It is more than twice as hard as iron and offers excellent wear and impact resistance.
But the thing is, since it's made of stone (rock), it gets chipped or broken really easily, you know?

While I was drilling, I thought, “Huh? It’s suddenly not making any progress,” and this is what happened...
It's terrible.
If this continues, it will look like the bit at the back.

If you keep spinning this without realizing it, you'll end up completely bald lol
Because we are drilling with a double-pipe system, it is difficult to clearly determine that the ring bit is no longer present, since the inner bit has already done some of the drilling.
Different mountains have different characteristics, so the drilling methods vary.
Generally speaking, if you’re drilling an anchor into that rock face, you can fully understand its characteristics by drilling just two or three holes.
Until then, I imagine there will be all sorts of issues, like getting stuck or getting bitten by a mountain and being unable to get out.
As long as you’re working out of sight, drilling operations rely on pressure gauges and a certain amount of intuition. It would be great if you could just show up at a site and drill right through the rock, but mountains like that are surprisingly rare, aren’t they?
Mountains over 30 meters high are especially challenging, and for the first one or two, we’re still feeling our way to figure out how to drill quickly and efficiently.
That's where the pressure of surgery comes from.
If we don't drill and finish the holes quickly, we won't make any money.
Neither ring bits nor casing are cheap, so I'm always on edge, lol.
I suppose that kind of pressure is part of what makes drilling operations so exciting.
