The other day, I wrote a little about making heatstroke prevention measures mandatory.
Today, I’m going to write about what kinds of drinks are effective for everyone doing hard work.

It was often said that the human body is 60% water.
When you're working hard in the heat, you lose fluids really fast, don't you?

Sweat plays a role similar to that of a radiator in a car.
Sweat cools the body by drawing heat away as it evaporates. (Heat of vaporization)
So, if sweat is dripping down, you’re essentially wasting the cooling water you’ve worked so hard to produce.
This is called ineffective sweating.

So, the idea is to let it cool efficiently, right?
Even with work clothes that have built-in fans, the main goal is to help the shirt underneath dry, so it’s fair to say that ensuring proper airflow is far more important than the strength of the breeze.

The osmotic pressure of human body fluids is generally between 280 and 300 mOsm/L.
A solution with a similar composition is called an isotonic solution.
The sports drink whose name starts with "P" has an osmolarity of 286 mOsm/L.
The sports drink whose name starts with "A" has an osmolarity of 290 mOsm/L.

How does it dry?

I wrote that 60% in humans is water.
This water can be divided into extracellular fluid (blood, lymph, interstitial fluid, etc.) and intracellular fluid (fluid inside cells).
The cell membrane separates the intracellular fluid from the extracellular fluid; since it is a semipermeable membrane, it allows only water to pass through.
When extracellular fluid is lost through sweat, the concentration of minerals such as sodium in that fluid increases.
As a result, water moves from the intracellular fluid to the extracellular fluid to equalize the concentrations, causing the intracellular fluid to become dehydrated as well.

What Kinds of Drinks and When to Drink Them

Thus, when the body is dehydrated, consuming a solution that is less concentrated than an isotonic solution allows it to reach the intracellular fluid more quickly.
Therefore, you should drink an isotonic beverage before exercising, and a hypotonic beverage is best for rehydration during periods of heavy sweating.
(I’ll skip the part about minerals for now.)
Before starting work, isotonic solutions and ice slurries can also help lower core body temperature.
