Strength with and without Formwork | Verification of Formwork Construction

In my blog post the other day, I said I was planning to post a video of an experiment today, but when I really thought about it, I realized I usually write the actual post the day before.

That's why it's impossible to write about what happened today on the same day.

Maybe tomorrow~ (probably lol)


But that's beside the point.

 

A frame that has been smoothed with a trowel and looks shiny, and a frame that has been left as-is without being smoothed with a trowel.

Which one do you think is stronger?

Have you ever been asked that question, or have you ever heard it?

This one doesn't have a bevel. (Though I did cut it once and apply a finish coat.)

When you line these two up like this, how does the strength compare?

 

I was once taught that a design without a rib is stronger.

I remember thinking, “Oh, that makes sense!” when I heard the reason back then. (At the time)

When you apply the iron, moisture rises to that area.

The reason given was that even a slight increase in the water-to-cement ratio in that area would reduce the surface strength.

 

On the other hand, since the side without the trowel essentially remains untouched, its surface area is greater than that of the side with the trowel, and the water-to-cement ratio remains constant.

I thought, "Oh, that makes sense!" about both reasons.

The reason is that I don't think I've ever tried it.

Has anyone measured its strength?

This is, after all, just a prediction, so,

Even if we were to extract a core sample there and conduct a compressive strength test, we wouldn't be able to collect enough data to draw statistical conclusions.

Besides, there’s no way I can take the exam without a file, so I’ll polish both sides.

So that's just speculation, after all.

 

If it ever came to that, I wonder if both answers would be equally correct.

The answer was, surprisingly, "Because there's no way to find out," lol.

 

If we were to quantify that, it would probably become a technical matter, but as things stand, it doesn't really matter.

It's just a matter of whether or not I'll get paid for the iron, isn't it?
