Cutting Steel! (Part 1) | Cutting Tools Series

Hello, everyone.

Have you ever used a metal-cutting bit?

I've used it twice in the past.

That was during the construction of the catch basin, wasn't it?

I used it to cut liner plates and other things.

I think I used the composite type back then.

So this is a composite-type bit, isn't it?

The difference from a standard bit is that the tip isn't embedded like a needle.

This composite is made of the same tungsten as a standard bit, and the surrounding area is filled and built up with wax.

 

It feels like it’s slowly shaving away the metal as it comes into contact with the metal plate.

This time, we drilled holes into some fairly thick 10-mm sheet piles.

It took quite a while because we hadn't taken measures to prevent the bit from drifting at the point where it would hit the casing at the drilling site.

It took about an hour and a half with a φ135 composite bit lol

I think the time will be more accurate after we perform the anti-drift adjustment again next time, so please wait a bit.

If you don't prevent it from shifting, it will slide when it hits the metal plate.

It's hard to swing the hammer properly when my feet slip.

It went pretty fast from there on, though.

This is what it looks like in the end.

Since it is similar in size to the bit diameter (with a clearance of about 2 mm), there is virtually no soil runoff during actual drilling.

 

In the next episode, we’ll use a misalignment stop to measure time, show a video of drilling, and introduce a different type of bit.
