What do you do when a young employee says, “I want to try this new thing” or “I want to try that”?
How will you handle this?
Are you the type who doesn't let people try new things—or doesn't want them to—because it's risky, after all?
Are you the type who loves to keep trying new things?
If you think about it normally,
New things are full of risks.That's it.
It's nothing but risks, lol.
So, at this stage, it’s safer not to do it—or not to let others do it.
However, let’s say time passes and that young employee grows older and becomes a senior employee.
Our former seniors are no longer with us.
As a result of being held back while working at the company, I stopped even trying to take on new challenges, and decades have passed.
Historically speaking, it took only a few decades for people to switch from wearing straw sandals to wearing shoes.
We went from riding horses to riding in horse-drawn carriages, then to riding motorcycles, and finally to driving cars.
I've switched from wearing a kimono to wearing Western-style clothes.
We used to send smoke signals, but now we can stay in touch via smartphone.
Letters (emails) reach the recipient in an instant.
Are there really any companies out there that have never taken on new challenges or tried anything new??
Taking on a new challenge means,
I believe it’s possible to accept current risks to the fullest extent while simultaneously diversifying and mitigating future risks as much as possible.
The reason for reducing variance is experience points.
The more experience you have with failure, the higher your evasion ability (defense) will be.That's it.
Not knowing leads to failure.
If you know this, you won't fail.
If doing just this much can reduce future risks, why not take the risk now?
And there's one more benefit to trying something new.
It means that by creating something that doesn't exist here and now, the demand for it will lead to somewhere in the future.
Beyond that challenge lies something whose destination is unknown.
That’s why business leaders who are aware of this often say,"Challenge" (Action)That's what they say.
Nothing will ever get started unless you take the plunge (and take action).
To put it bluntly, if you don't open the door to your house, you can't even start going to work.
Do you have a boss who is always critical?
Is there any guarantee that your boss will save your future self?
What do you think will happen to the company after that boss retires?
Even as a salaried employee, your future in a few years’ time will depend on the challenges you take on.
A company that lets you take on challenges big enough to transform its business is really appealing, isn't it?
