I Tried Making an Assembled Pressure Plate (Part 2) | Completion

This is the assembly pressure plate that I prototyped and did a test assembly on the other day.

At the job site the other day, it was installed like this, but...

Here's the test assembly I did the other day.

Don't you think something's off?

Even though I mentioned this, a mistake still occurred. The plan was to have six bolts on the bottom and four on the top, and as long as a small one was placed behind the pressure plate on the upper steel plate, it wasn't supposed to buckle.

It was supposed to be supported by six channel beams at the bottom, but ended up with only four, and it buckled spectacularly.

 

It's calculated for six 200-kN rods, so of course it'll snap if there are only four, lol.

I was definitely disappointed and annoyed, wasn't I? (Which means the beam calculations were completely useless.)

I thought I should have given it a little more thought, but since I did well on the basic exam itself, that was a relief—and I was able to identify a critical flaw in the assembled pressure plate.

Considering that first-time assemblers almost always make mistakes, we need to design the product in a way that minimizes assembly errors.

That's an important step before doing the structural calculations.

It’s important to figure out how to prevent mistakes, isn’t it? (It would be so simple if you could just set it up without having to think about it, right?)

Also, this load-bearing plate had other design features that were meant to accommodate unevenness in the natural ground of about 3 cm, but that wasn't tested either lol

I had a couple of meetings the other day, so I just couldn't make it, you know~

It really is a shame, lol.

 

Well, since there's a basic exam in October, I'd like to make one more before then.

Since the load will be a bit heavier next time, I'm thinking I'll do a thorough calculation and design a structure that minimizes the risk of assembly errors.

For now, I'm just making these as a hobby without worrying about the money, but I hope they'll turn out well eventually.
