The other day, I was doing some head preparation for a rebar inserter and thought, “Huh?” lol

So, I removed the bolt on the head and bled the air...

That's how we used to do it back in the day.

I thought that would cause the air to escape from the head, but!!!

 

The other day, while I was working on the head,

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no—the air's going to leak out, isn't it?!?!

Place it over the head of the rebar.

The top is filled to the brim with rust-preventive oil.

If you just put the cover on like this, there’s no way the air will escape—it’ll just be trapped inside the rust-preventative oil, so there’s absolutely no way air will get out.

Even if I remove the bolt on top, it definitely won't come out, right?? (Just thinking about it logically, lol)

Even if you remove the bolt, rust-preventive oil will only come out from the rebar and the nut.

 

I guess we really don't need aluminum caps with rust-preventive oil after all.

It's about time both consulting firms and government agencies stopped wasting money.

At this site, we installed the rebar before using the Engineered Pile System (EPS), but the rebar has aluminum caps on them.

Just bury it all under dirt, lol

At this point, even construction consultants?? I wish they’d give it a little more thought.

Even if you’ve treated the head, you don’t really need an aluminum cap with rust-preventive oil, do you?

 

Do you know how long galvanized coatings last?

It lasts for about 25 years in coastal areas.

Is rust-preventive oil necessary for galvanized rebar that will be embedded in concrete?

 

And if the aluminum cap were to crack for some reason in the future, there’s a chance the rust-preventive oil inside could leak out, which could be a hassle (I’m exaggerating, lol).

I really hope that construction consulting firms and government agencies will stop being so fixated on past projects and track records and start realizing what’s unnecessary.
