The Age When You Still Live with Your Parents | The Hozumaya Family’s View on Family

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

I made a quick trip back to Kagoshima on New Year's Eve lol

Sakurajima, New Year's Day 2020

It had been a while since I’d been to Kagoshima, and the weather was beautiful with clear skies and great views.

And I came back after a one-night, two-day trip lol

The thing is, my mom went through a lot on New Year's Eve, so she ended up getting hospitalized lol

So, I had to rush back, take care of a bunch of things, and then come back, but, well, I’m getting on in years, after all.

Since I’m already approaching my mid-40s, my mother is getting on in years, too.

My mother lives alone and is self-sufficient, which was a relief in its own way, but this recent incident made me, in a sense, come to a decision—or perhaps I just had to accept that it couldn’t be helped—

"I said, 'Are you coming over here soon?' lol"

If you're around my age, isn't that about the time you're going through that phase?

Or maybe they’re already living together, or attending a facility somewhere.

I guess it’s no big deal, but it actually took a lot of courage to ask my mom, “Do you want to live with me?”

Even though we haven't lived together for over 20 years, my mom suddenly shows up at my place again... It seems kind of weird, doesn't it? lol

Well, I guess I'll just have to get used to it...

I plan to rent a place as close by as possible and live separately.

I think it would be better not to interfere, but we need to carefully consider each other's perspectives and circumstances, don't we?

Since we're parent and child, there's always a risk we'll end up arguing if we get too close. I think it'd be best if we could maintain a healthy distance, lol.

Well, I have a house in Kagoshima, so I’ll have to sell it and make various other preparations, but will I actually be coming next year??

That's kind of how it is. (It depends on my mom's schedule.)

It looks like things are going to be pretty busy around here this year.

It's something that can't be helped, so it's not worth worrying about. You just have to accept it.

And I realized during this whirlwind trip home that I'm really exhausted!

I'm just so exhausted, even though I only went on a one-night, two-day trip from Nagoya to Kagoshima and back to Nagoya lol

I feel like my recovery rate has dropped somehow.

I drank a little too much over the holidays...

I'm going to cut back a bit in January and really focus on work!

See you later.

P.S. I was invited to the year-end party for supervisors in the Kagoshima slope construction industry on the 29th (or was I?), but since I wasn't planning on going back, I turned it down.

And that’s what happened as a result of my trip home this time...

I should have posted a little earlier... well, I guess it can't be helped...

If I can come back around next year, please invite me again.
