After a slope collapse, the adjacent slope is at risk | Risk of a chain reaction collapse

We extend our deepest condolences to those affected by Typhoon No. 19.

I also want to ask the general contractors and subcontractors who are currently busy with disaster response efforts to please take every precaution while carrying out their work.

Take precautions to prevent secondary disasters.


But that's beside the point.

There was some damage at our worksite as well, and we sustained some losses.

Typhoon No. 19: Collapse

It was a mountain that had already suffered severe weathering, and it was in such a dilapidated state that we had to apply a temporary spray coating.

The formwork for the upper section had been sprayed in, and the spraying was carried out in parallel with the cutting, which had a slight counter-clockwise twist.

 

And then there’s Typhoon No. 19.

As you'd expect, with that much rainfall, the mountains are almost completely saturated.

I guess we'll just have to let it go.

 

Water that cannot seep into the groundwater becomes internal water pressure, which triggers landslides.

So, it bursts out from within, just like the Hokuto Shinken.

We can only stand by helplessly and watch the desolate slope.

 

Special caution is required at sites where spring water is flowing or where there is a large amount of spring water.

How are things going at your workplace?

Is the water still running?

If it's out there, please be very careful.

If possible, maybe it's not time to start on it just yet.

As long as the water level doesn't drop, there's no problem.

 

However, even if water is flowing, the dangerous area is the slope next to the collapsed slope (cliff).

The collapsed slope no longer has any sections that are prone to sliding. (It has reached a stable gradient.)

It is highly unlikely that it will collapse again.

If you are planning to carry out any remedial work, please take great care with the slope adjacent to the unstable slope.

This means there may still be factors that could lead to its collapse.
