Winter Bonuses ”Increase” for the First Time in Three Years”
On the 22nd, the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) announced the average amount agreed upon for winter bonuses (bonus payments and lump-sum payments) at major companies for 2022.
The average bonus amount across all industries is894,179 yenAs a result, it increased by 8.92% (73,224 yen) compared to last winter. This marked the first increase in winter bonuses in three years.

The construction industry has surpassed 1.2 million! It tops all industries again this year.
The average winter bonus in the construction industry is1,247,699 yenAs a result, it increased by 4.331 TP3T (51,744 yen) from last winter and once again ranked first among all industries this year.
Following the construction industry, the sectors with the highest winter bonuses were “steel” at 1,017,895 yen and “machinery and metals” at 981,766 yen. While 16 of the 18 sectors saw increases compared to last year, two sectors—paper and pulp, and electric power—saw decreases.
――Although COVID-19-related restrictions have been lifted this year and commercial facilities and tourist destinations are gradually regaining their vitality, rising global energy and raw material prices, as well as soaring consumer prices due to the weak yen, are affecting all industries and consumers.

*This data is based on a survey of 254 major companies in 21 key industries, each with 500 or more employees. Only seven companies in the construction industry were surveyed, so these results represent only a portion of the overall picture.
