I’m often out in the field because I’m so busy, but it really makes me think about a lot of things.

I can't go into detail about the circumstances, but this is the first time I've encountered a situation like this.

But mud and drilling slime are okay...

 

As for how we actually installed them, we laid the oil mats perpendicular to the direction of water flow.

We laid a blue tarp on top of that and set up the plants and cement.

Lay down an oil mat around the drilling machine.

I guess this should be okay even if some oil splatters, lol.

That's what I was thinking.

 

So, I actually found out that oil doesn't really splatter as much as you'd think.

It would be a different story if the hydraulic oil had leaked, but since I’d only bought this machine last year and the hydraulic hoses showed no signs of deterioration, I was relieved.

When they get old, the hydraulic hoses suddenly burst and it’s like a downpour of hydraulic fluid lol

Since I was told under no circumstances to use oil, I made sure to thoroughly check the hydraulic hoses before getting in this time.

I also used as little grease as possible.

 

Maybe because of that, there wasn't a single drop of oil, but I ended up learning that blue tarps are a no-go at sites where oil spills are a no-no lol.

Since we had a blue tarp spread out over the entire area, the drilling slurry and cement slurry got under the tarp, so we can't wash it off!

Since oil is generally lighter than water, it floats on top of it.

Even if it spills, as long as the area is soaked with water, the oil will float on top of the water and be absorbed by the oil mat as is.

Because of the blue tarp, there were areas that didn't get wet and others that couldn't be washed, so I had a hard time with the final wash. (Cement slurry had caked on.)

 

As it turned out, I had been overthinking it.That's the way it is.

We’ll be performing the same work during the next construction project, but this time we plan to use only oil-absorbent mats and blue tarps to protect the cement plant.

And the cherry on top is the oil-absorbing sand!

While it is extremely important to be prepared and thoughtful in all matters, it is also important not to get caught up in that.

Because of the protective measures we took this time, we’ve probably lost about 1.5 days.

We're also wasting quite a bit of protective material.

 

Next time, I hope to build on this “success-like failure” and achieve a more streamlined success.

By the way, I recommend using an oil-absorbing mat that doesn't absorb water.
