I'm fully back at work now.

We're also starting work on-site today.

Accidents do tend to happen more frequently during this time of year.

 

I guess I just let my guard down.

And,I tend to think that I'm the only one who'll be okay.

This is actually very dangerous, but,

So why do you think that?

 

It seems that people make judgments by taking shortcuts in their thinking, and thatHeuristicsis what they say.
(Thinking Shortcuts = Heuristics)
To put it simply,
President = Older
Doctors = Men
People who wear glasses = serious
Nurses = Kind

When people make judgments, they often look at only a part of the situation and treat it as “representative” of the whole.

Using this as a basis for decision-making is called the representativeness heuristic.

There are three types of heuristics: "representativeness," "recall (availability)," and "anchoring."

If you've never been in an accident or suffered an injury in the past,

As a result of that shortcut in thinking,

That leads to the conclusion that I'm okay.

It's just like buying a lottery ticket.

You buy them thinking, “Maybe I’ll win this time!” right? (I don’t buy them, though, lol)

Apparently, the odds of winning the first prize of 200 million are about 1 in 10 million.

Even so, I can't help but think, "Maybe I'll win!"

There was a sign at that sales counter that said, “A first prize of 200 million was won right here!” and,

That's why you think, "I should buy it here!" And with all those commercials playing nonstop, it creates a positive image that you'll win.

It gets planted in your mind without you even realizing it. (Commonly known as the "anchoring effect.")

I just can't picture what kind of accidents happen on-site!

This means that no matter how many "KY" activities we carry out or how much safety training we provide, they still can't seem to grasp the concept.

That's why they engage in unsafe behavior.

 

I’m no exception—I’ve been in this industry for 21 years now.

To date, there have been no accidents during construction on any of the sites I have supervised.

So,I believe—and so does my company—that there is no way we would ever cause an accident.

 

However,This just won't do.

 

So, what should we do?
