Do you conduct self-inspections of your machinery?
This is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I didn't know the details either—it turns out you don't actually need any special qualifications to perform self-inspections on machinery!!
Well, to put it bluntly, anyone could do it, but I suppose it really should be done by someone who’s certified to operate that machine.
As far as qualifications go, I think having a skills training certificate is sufficient.
And apparently, that data is retained for three years.
For example, the Industrial Safety and Health Act requires that mobile cranes and similar equipment undergo periodic self-inspections.
That inspection can be outsourced, or it can be performed by our own employees.
Since the inspection procedure was provided by the Crane Association, I've posted it below.
In addition, since our machines are involved, we should probably perform all types of self-inspections as a general rule.
This is especially true for general machinery such as generators and compressors.
Since sprayers and drilling machines are specialized equipment, I don't think there are any specific requirements, but I wonder how it actually works...
Issues like these—related to labor, safety, and health—are really difficult, or maybe just a hassle; even though we know they’re important, we tend to put them off.
I have quite a few books at home, too, but they're practically brand new... lol
It’s like looking at that part only when you need to, then gently putting it back on the bookshelf.
