Have you heard of "ph"?
It's pronounced "P-H"!!!!!!?
If you call it "pH," it might not mean anything to kids these days or to young people.
After looking it up, I found out that “pH” is a German term, and it’s pronounced “P-H” in English.
It was originally the German term “pH,” but I’ve heard that “PH” was standardized according to international units when it was incorporated into the JIS standards.
Plus, even though the standardization happened in 1957 (Showa 32), I think those of us in our 40s probably learned it as “pH” lol.
That means the teacher at the time had been using pH for several decades, doesn't it?
It was passed down to us from then on and has continued to the present day, but it seems that during the Heisei era, it changed to "PH."
For that reason, young people these days are likely to be more familiar with PH.
I suppose some people might call it "pH," though.
From now on, it would be best to pronounce it as "PH" as much as possible.
Saying things like "Back in the day..." is so lame, lol.
