Insect Repellent You Absolutely Can't Do Without This Season | Hozumiya

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

There's something I often recommend around this time of year, lol.

Since Obon is over, and there was a bit of talk about it the other day, I thought I’d share it here.

Gnats

When fall rolls around, the number of gnats (also known as "buyu" or "buto") really skyrockets, doesn't it!?

When you get bitten by that thing, it’s just so itchy, and it swells up like crazy, doesn’t it?

And it's buzzing right in front of my eyes—so annoying lol

As for dealing with black flies, insect repellent spray is the standard choice, but since we’re amateurs, we slope maintenance workers should use peppermint oil instead!

That's because it seems that insect repellent sprays often don't work on insects they aren't designed to repel.

That's why peppermint oil is great for keeping bugs away!

This is probably the best option on the job site.

Plus, since it's a natural oil (essential oil), it's totally fine to spray it on your face! And it has a nice, cooling sensation that feels great lol

Peppermint Oil

If you're looking for something hassle-free, this is the best option.

I use it myself, and since it comes with a spray nozzle, I can carry it in my pocket, and I can refill it when it runs low.

It is a bit pricey, though. That said, since it contains 220 mL, it will last several years even if you only use it during this season—but it costs 2,190 yen.

It seems like it could be used in the bath or for other things, but I haven't really thought of anything other than using it as insect repellent lol

Price per 1 mL: 9.9 yen

If you'd rather go with the cheaper option even without the spray, check this out

Peppermint Oil

You can find this at pharmacies, too, and it costs 600 yen.

Price per 1 mL: 30 yen

Ultimately, if you're using them as insect repellent, they're both the same.

It's a matter of personal preference which one to use, but isn't it pretty cool that a slope maintenance worker uses aromatherapy to keep bugs away!? lol

And here are the classic mosquito coils

Professional-Grade Mosquito Coils

If you're a pro, this is the one to get.

If I just hang this from my safety harness, nothing will come near me lol

If there are five of us working and two of us are wearing them around our waists, I don't think any bugs will come near us, lol.

It probably won't work if you're too far away, but this is really effective!

This time of year, someone on the job site is bound to end up with a swollen spot somewhere, lol.

Since there’s a very real risk of catching an infectious disease, let’s take proper precautions so we can work comfortably during this busy season when work tends to move quickly!

It’ll still be hot for a while, but let’s do our best to stay safe!

See you later.
