This is Enta.

A major safety conference was held the other day.

Going to safety meetings is a hassle, but I actually kind of like them.

There are many interesting and fascinating aspects to it.

 

On the other hand, there are some parts where I wonder, “Don’t we really need this anymore?”

I suppose it’s important, but the part I think is unnecessary is the incidence rate of accidents.

I don't think there's practically anyone who actually understands terms like "frequency rate" or "intensity rate," lol.

Even if the construction manager heard that...

 

Wouldn't it be better to ask about that company's accident rate instead?

For example, what about that company’s rate of falls from heights?

Be especially careful in [Month], as there will be [XX] more cases of heatstroke.

Like, "Be careful because there are a lot of traffic accidents in [month]"?

Like, "Be careful because there are a lot of falls in [month]"?

 

Of course, it’s important to always be on the lookout, but,

It's important to know what "especially" means, isn't it?

I mean, if you try to explain frequency rates and severity rates to someone who doesn't understand them, they'll just stare at you blankly, lol.

At safety meetings, one of the most interesting things is that every now and then, safety measures are presented that aren’t just run-of-the-mill but are actually quite ingenious.

There are some things that make you think, "Wow, this is really well thought out—I love it!"

That really piques my interest, and if I see the product I was using back then listed online, I’d buy it right away.

I’m really excited about this because I want to invest heavily in safety facilities and equipment.

It’s really helpful and great when you see things like, “Here’s what to do in this situation,” “Use this,” or “This costs this much on Amazon!”

 

And then there's the lecture.

The lectures featuring various professional speakers are very interesting.

This is the part where your good judgment really comes into play, depending on who you decide to invite, lol.

The most interesting thing I’ve ever experienced was a safety lecture given by a rakugo storyteller.

As expected, he’s here to make us laugh, so it’s a lot of fun—and what’s more, he uses language that’s familiar to us, making us think, “A rakugo performer actually knows words like this?!”

Just as I was thinking that, I heard that the safety officer had actually given instructions beforehand.

It was such a well-crafted talk—I really enjoyed it.

While also recognizing that this is an important opportunity to encourage people to give serious thought to safety awareness,

I think you should just have as much fun as you can.

After all, it’s easier to focus on happy memories.

How can we make safety awareness fun and eliminate unsafe practices?

I’d also like it to be in a format that makes it easy for participants to distribute once they return to their own companies.

For example, something that’s been organized into easy-to-understand data. (To be posted on the internal chat.)

It would be better to distribute the materials from the safety meeting to all employees of the construction company to ensure everyone is aware of them, wouldn't it?

 

Up until now, whenever I attended a safety meeting where they’d say, “This is tough,” and make us watch something that looked like a skit performed by employees, I honestly thought, “What is this?” lol

I'm sure the people participating had fun, but for the rest of us who were just forced to watch without understanding what was going on, it was a safety meeting where we were left in the dark lol

And to be honest, nobody really cares about updates on current projects or stories about past ones.

Unless our company is involved, no one else (other companies) is interested, right?

It just seems like they're trying to pad the runtime lol

 

We will continue to participate in various companies' safety conferences this year as well.
