How to Secure Accommodations During This Time of Year
There are times when you end up going back home or staying overnight unexpectedly around this time of year, right?
While you might have some plans when visiting your hometown, there’s also a chance you might end up staying overnight due to some unforeseen circumstances.
However, it’s often quite difficult to arrange such a last-minute stay.
That's because accommodations are often fully booked.
So, what should you do in that situation?
These days, most people probably just do a Google search and look at whatever booking information they can find.
However, most of the same-day reservation information is either fully booked or not listed at all.
And there are almost no low-priced options.
To begin with, from the hotel’s perspective, the prices listed online are simply figures intended to attract customers.
Not all rooms are priced that way.
And one more thing. While the number of rooms available at that price varies by hotel, the total number is fixed.
For example, Hotel A has five rooms that cost 4,500 yen per night.
Hotel B has two rooms that cost 4,000 yen per night.
There are differences like these, among others.
In other words, these prices are strictly intended to attract customers.
For last-minute stays, please check the regular rates.
And there's only one way to book that hotel!
I'm going to make a ton of phone calls!
This is the only way to go.
Instead of searching online, I look up nearby hotels online and call them.
So, right off the bat, ask them straight out, “This might be a bit sudden, but do you have a room available for X people today?”
If it's not available, they'll say, "We're fully booked today," so I'll just say, "Thank you," and hang up right away.
If it looks like they can accommodate you, they'll say something like, "We have X twin rooms and X single rooms available—all of them are smoking rooms."
It's better for the other person, too—it gets things done faster than rambling on and on.
If it's late in the day, there might be cancellations, so you might be able to go.
Since there are some difficult guests early in the morning, the hotel's response can be a bit awkward.
High-end hotels often won't let you in. It's a whole different level of luxury! lol
If it's a local business, there's a good chance they'll let you in.
In my case, I often end up staying somewhere on the spur of the moment, but I usually find a place after making just five calls!
There have been almost no times when I couldn't find a place to stay.
I remember a time when I was staying in Sapporo; the hotels were completely booked over the weekend, so I reluctantly ended up paying 15,000 yen for one night.
(I'm the type who can basically sleep anywhere, so paying this much for work is a bit of a stretch lol)
