The other day, I was traveling from Enta (Iwakura City, Aichi Prefecture) to Izumi (Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture).
This happened while I was driving on the Chuo Expressway in Gifu.
I knew it was an unmarked police car, but I passed it at 110 km/h.
Of course, since I'm using cruise control, my speed is constant.
I passed that police car and, since I wasn't in a hurry, drove along at a leisurely pace.
So there it was, driving quite a ways behind me with its red lights flashing.
I didn't think anything of it and just kept running.
The moment I passed the truck and moved from the passing lane back into the driving lane
Suddenly, a police car sped up and pulled up alongside me to signal.
I'm driving on the highway at 110 km/h, and someone is talking to me through a megaphone, but,
I can't hear a thing lol
Then, a police car pulls up in front, and its LED sign reads, “Follow the police car.”
？？？
The speed is fine, and I'm not talking on my cell phone.
Wondering "Why?", I decided to pull over to the shoulder for the time being.
The moment I stopped, a police officer started walking toward me.
I opened the driver's side window with a "whoosh."
Police officer: "Excuse me, driver! I'm not here to ticket you!"
Me: “???”
Police officer: “I understand you were driving at a constant speed of 110 km/h, but the speed limit on the Chuo Expressway is 80 km/h.”
Police officer: “When I turned on the red light, you were going 80 km/h, so I meant to tell you to slow down a little, but—”
"Since the driver just kept driving, we had to stop him."
Me: "Oh, I see... lol"
Police officer: "I understand you're driving safely and within the speed limit, but since this is an 80 km/h road, please comply."
Me: “So, at what weight would they arrest you?”
Police officer: “I can’t really say—it might vary by prefecture, after all.”
After that, the usual routine of checking my driver's license and confirming my destination.
That's how it felt.
Based on my experience, I think it’s fine up to 115 km/h lol (highway patrol car)
Well, there's nothing better than driving safely, and driving slower is safer anyway.
However, driving at 80 km/h on the highway can actually be quite a nuisance.
"Shouldn't it be at least 100 km?" (That's just my opinion, though.)
Since that happened, let’s all be careful—whether you already knew about it or not!
If a police car is not approaching with its red lights flashing, this is a warning.That's what it means.
In a way, I feel like this is what the police should really be like.
After all, it warns you before you commit a violation.
