How do you handle the back side when inserting rebar?
Whether it’s rebar installation or ground anchor work, whenever there is unevenness, we generally level the surface and install a load-bearing plate.
The reason is that the pressure isn't being effectively transmitted to the natural ground.
That said, in the case of rebar insertion work, the rebar is simply held in place and isn’t under any tensile stress.
To be honest, as long as it's there, that's good enough lol
But that won't pass inspection.
There are three ways to deal with that situation.
1. Install the rebar before spraying the mortar, and install the green panels.
If you just spray the green panels right over the top, it will all disappear, and you'll get a clean finish.
2. Install the zabuton frame and attach the panels.
This is probably the safest option, but it's expensive.
3. Attach the mat to the back of the pressure plate (it is necessary to eliminate unevenness to some extent using spray application).
This is another strategy for keeping costs lower than using zabuton-style framing, but the quality of the work can vary depending on the contractor's skill level.
There's a quick-and-dirty trick where you just pack mortar into the gaps, but it's pretty pointless, lol.
It crumbles off due to wear and tear over time, so is this just a "measure for inspections"? It doesn't even work.
I think these are the mainstream options right now.
How the work is carried out is up to the contractor, but I think Option 1 results in the best overall finish.
