Have you heard of “migi-ashi”?
These are the inspection colors for wire ropes that are commonly used on job sites.
Depending on the workplace, people might also say things like "right foot, left foot."
Mi: Green
Gi: Yellow
A: Red
Shi: White
Inspect the wire and wrap it with tape.
The inspection items are something like this, right?
That said, I still use them quite a bit, even if they have a few kinks, are a bit misshapen, or are really rusty.
It’s really hard to tell just by looking at a wire rope, isn’t it?
We try to throw out the really bad ones as much as possible, but,
Since the wire is fairly thick, it won't snap when you hang something light on it, so it's actually quite hard to tell.
Since we tend to buy the thicker ones, it’s especially hard to tell.
The reason for buying a larger size is for safety.
To put it bluntly, the thicker it is, the harder it is to cut, lol.
But the sling is the worst.
You really have to be careful with slings—no matter how thick they are, they can be dangerous.
It just cuts out with absolutely no warning!
This sling is very easy to use, but on the other hand, the risks can be hard to spot, so please be very careful.
Recently, there have been cases where slings are replaced based on their age, and some slings have markings indicating their age, so please inspect them carefully.
Even so, it’s really hard to bring yourself to throw away a sling that seems perfectly fine, isn’t it? lol
Besides, it's expensive to buy.
I guess it's best to suspend things (machines) with wire whenever possible, isn't it?
It seems safer than using a sling.
Either way, we’ll make sure to inspect everything thoroughly before proceeding with the hoisting work.
