I think this is common knowledge these days, but,

Do the ropes on the slope extend all the way to the bottom of the slope?

Do you know why the main rope is lowered all the way to the foot of the slope?

 

Well, this is pretty basic, but,

In the past, there were quite a few accidents on slopes where the lollipop would slip out of the main rope attached to the slope and fall.

 

As a countermeasure, it was decided that the ends of the main rope must always be tied into a knot!

Eventually, many contractors failed to comply with this requirement, which ultimately made it mandatory to lower a rope all the way to the base of the structure.

Also, there was a time when someone said that tying one main rope to another is dangerous because you have to unclip the carabiner when moving to the lower main rope!

Well, basically, the big companies stick to this strictly, while local businesses are kind of in the middle, I guess~ lol

 

However, there is one thing about this that’s a little scary.

 

Suppose there is a worker rappelling down a slope using a main rope.

If the section below that worker collapses, the main rope will get caught up in the collapse!

When that happens, the main rope is pulled downward.

And since the main rope is secured at the top, it stays taut!

 

The worker hanging there will be lifted up!

Whaaaaaat!!! You've got to be kidding me!!!!!!?

That's exactly what happened right in front of me!

 

Fortunately, the rope didn't snap, and I was just left hanging in the air about 2 meters up, so it wasn't too bad, but,

I wonder what would have happened if the rope had snapped while I was hanging in midair.

 

The safety rope kept me from falling, but I never would have expected it to get caught up in the collapse.

 

After seeing that, I started wondering if having a long safety rope has its pros and cons. (Though that’s pretty rare, lol.)

In that case, should you definitely tie the end of the main rope into a knot, or attach something that absolutely can’t come off?

Or should we wind the long main rope up to a certain point?

That's what I used to think.

 

Well, since the law is ultimately what counts as justice, I guess that’s fine in its own way, lol.

 

I think it would be good if you just kept in mind that there is that kind of risk.
