An earthquake during this spell of rain is really scary.

That earthquake early Monday morning really gave me a scare.

That's because the risk of a landslide has suddenly increased!

To begin with, the mountains are already saturated from days of rain!

And then this earthquake hit, as if to say, “It’s all falling apart.”

How are things going at your workplace?

Are you maintaining the slope properly??

I think it would still be somewhat okay if the actual construction exceeds the safety factor of 1 specified in the original design, but in cases where the work is still within the legal framework, it may still be at the assembly stage, or—in the case of anchors—before tensioning.

For now, please inspect the area above the upper shoulder where construction will take place.

Are there any cracks in the ground?

Slope contractors (construction companies) actually never perform any inspections like this at all.

Since work usually begins with the assumption that “it should be fine” due to the normalcy bias, people often don’t realize there’s a problem until something actually happens.

The mountain mentioned above also developed a crack in the upper part of the Hōkata due to heavy rain.

We were saying that this was a serious problem, so we contacted the local government, halted the construction, and waited to see how things would turn out.

That afternoon, I slid right along.

Especially in cases like this one, with prolonged rain, there are usually some warning signs.

There are actually some fairly obvious warning signs, so on rainy days, I’d like you to go around the side of the mountain to check it out.

Doing so can help prevent some accidents before they happen. (Evacuating people and moving machinery out of the way)

If you're working on the construction site, please take photos of the entire site every morning and evening.

This serves as evidence for insurance claims in the event of a slip-and-fall and for government agency guarantees.

Since the Tokai region is expected to experience prolonged rain this week, please be extra careful and conduct daily slope inspections at regular intervals.
