I\u2019ve taken the liberty of starting this glossary of civil engineering and slope engineering terms.<\/p>\n

I'll just post them as they come.<\/p>\n

Have you heard of slaking?<\/p>\n

Is this a term that's unfamiliar to slope engineers?<\/p>\n

Well, civil engineers use it all the time, and I think it\u2019s pretty common among geological consultants as well.<\/p>\n

The phenomena we see every day actually have names.<\/p>\n

Especially regarding soil conditions.<\/p>\n

And \u201cslayking\u201d in this context is a geological term.<\/p>\n

What Is Slaking?<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Simply put, when soft and hard rocks are repeatedly exposed to cycles of drying and wetting, they break down from the inside and become finer and finer.<\/p>\n

In some cases, the anchorage layer in anchor work consists of mudstone.<\/p>\n

In that case, we drill into fresh mudstone and inject the material, but even if the rock becomes saturated during drilling, the drying process does not proceed.<\/p>\n

This is because, ultimately, an anchor body is inserted and cement slurry is injected.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why it prevents the fabric from drying out too quickly.<\/p>\n

Since the material tends to remain moist, the likelihood of slaking is low.<\/p>\n

Try using the word \u201cslaying\u201d at some worksite or other lol<\/p>\n

You'll really benefit from using it.<\/p>\n
