The other night, I arrived at a job site in Hokkaido.<\/p>\n
It's fall, isn't it? lol<\/p>\n
I'm off to enjoy Hokkaido for a while! lol<\/p>\n
But that's beside the point.<\/p>\n
The Difficulty of Satisfying Everyone<\/p>\n

I use this image a lot, lol<\/p>\n
I really, truly feel that way.<\/p>\n
Even when I'm managing construction on-site, there are often times when I can't make head or tail of the questions from government officials.<\/p>\n
They study from books, but when they actually get to the workplace, they can\u2019t tell the difference between theory and practice, so they insist that it was written in the book.<\/p>\n
However, there are many cases where this doesn\u2019t actually work on-site, and the construction crew simply followed the instructions given by the person in charge [Tei].<\/p>\n
That's what we're making.<\/p>\n
As a result, that person took the [version] created by the construction team at face value and accepted it as the truth.<\/p>\n
That's when something weird happens, lol.<\/p>\n
Since that person will keep using that as a learning experience, it\u2019s going to be a real headache for any construction companies that come after them.<\/p>\n
But I guess this kind of thing wouldn't work on people like that anyway, lol.<\/p>\n
So that's why we build up our \u3010body\u3011, I guess...<\/p>\n

It's the same with craftsmen and site supervisors, isn't it?<\/p>\n
Craftsmen tend to cater to those who want to save time.<\/p>\n
The director, on the other hand, tends to work with those who are willing to put in the effort.<\/p>\n
If you lean entirely toward one side or the other, things on the ground tend not to go very well.<\/p>\n
Work goes smoothly when we find a compromise that incorporates each other's opinions as much as possible.<\/p>\n

This is exactly how the inflexible branch managers at major general contractors often end up failing lol (I\u2019m probably going to get in trouble for this...)<\/p>\n
When they just impose the general contractor's rules and things get completely out of hand (leaving everyone else with a \"Ugh, here we go again\" kind of vibe)<\/p>\n

Even in a typical company, some people don't see eye to eye with others.<\/p>\n
Of course. Both sides believe they\u2019re in the right\u2014that this is the right thing to do, that this is the best option!<\/p>\n
That's why they can't possibly mesh.<\/p>\n
We need to take a mature approach to identify the differences and commonalities, and move forward from there.<\/p>\n

The biggest problem here is both being too assertive and not asserting oneself enough.<\/p>\n
If you do nothing but push your own views, people around you will get fed up. While it\u2019s important to express your opinions, you should be careful not to push them too hard.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, people who don\u2019t speak up and just keep quiet are also a problem. Such people end up just complaining all the time without making any progress. (They can\u2019t grow.)<\/p>\n
At least the people making these claims are trying to move forward, so that\u2019s a bit better, lol.<\/p>\n

If we could build a relationship among government agencies, general contractors, and subcontractors where we recognize each other\u2019s strengths and support each other\u2019s weaknesses,<\/p>\n
It's really going to be a great set, isn't it!<\/p>\n
Companies and organizations like that are the best, too.<\/p>\n
We may not be able to satisfy everyone, but we might be able to find the perfect balance.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s best to start the meeting by both of us sharing all our thoughts first, and then continue the discussion from there.<\/p>\n
