It just occurred to me, but,<\/p>\n

Is a construction foreman considered white-collar or blue-collar?<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Since he wears a helmet on the job site, he comes across as more of a blue-collar worker.<\/p>\n

But when you take a objective look at the actual job duties, the main focus is on managing finished products, quality, processes, and costs.<\/p>\n

\"Huh? Isn't this a white-collar job?\" That's the kind of conversation that comes up, lol.<\/p>\n

A site supervisor's job actually consists solely of \"administrative duties\"<\/h2>\n

Here\u2019s a list of the tasks a director does on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

Workmanship control, quality control, process control, and cost control. They\u2019re all forms of \u201ccontrol.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meetings, drafting documents, poring over blueprints, organizing photos, safety paperwork\u2026 It\u2019s more on the desk-work side, if anything.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are site visits and surveying tasks, but I imagine many supervisors spend most of their working hours doing desk work at the main office or a temporary office.<\/p>\n

From a craftsman\u2019s perspective, a director is still necessary<\/h2>\n

On our slope-construction sites, to be honest, there are moments when it looks like things could run smoothly even without a foreman, right? lol<\/p>\n

This is something I feel partly because I have a background in directing, but the perspective changes when you look at it from a craftsman\u2019s point of view.<\/p>\n

Reviewing drawings to verify heights and the scope of work; carefully reading the special specifications; holding meetings with the general contractor and the client; and preparing as-built and quality documentation.<\/p>\n

There are many aspects of this that are difficult unless you're the director.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the site supervisor is in a gray area between blue and white. Personally, I think \u201cHybrid Color<\/strong>\"I'm in a position where I'd almost want to call him that, lol.\"<\/p>\n

The former manager also did some hands-on work.<\/h2>\n

In the past, on construction sites in rural areas, it was common for foremen to also perform the work of skilled tradespeople.<\/p>\n

I used to work my butt off on construction projects back when I was young, too.<\/p>\n

Install the formwork, set up the framework, and spray using the nozzle.<\/p>\n

We didn't do much work on the anchors, but we did a thorough job on the slope.<\/p>\n

Looking back now, this was a major experience.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, there are still cases where local contractors include their own labor costs for construction and supervision, and this type of worker\u2014who serves as both supervisor and craftsman\u2014is incredibly versatile.<\/p>\n

The Reality of Wages and Work Intensity\u2014A Look at the Data<\/h2>\n

Let's take a look at the numbers here.<\/p>\n

They tend to reach their peak about five years earlier than those in the manufacturing sector (ages 50\u201354).<\/p>\n

Despite the high workload, there are few applicants.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of applicants for low-stress office jobs. \u2026It\u2019s kind of strange, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

Even though they say they want higher pay, they\u2019re reluctant to work in the construction industry...<\/p>\n

In other words, we\u2019re entering an era where government blueprints will be instantly converted into 3D models and displayed on smartphones and tablets, allowing us to see the construction area at a glance.<\/p>\n

Up to a certain level of management, it is possible that work will proceed even without supervisors being constantly on-site.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when the question comes up: \u201cHow does a director add value?\u201d lol<\/p>\n

What will remain from now on is \u201chybrid color.\u201d<\/h2>\n

I think there\u2019s a possibility that half of a director\u2019s job could eventually be replaced by AI or smartphone apps.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve probably already seen ads from various companies promoting AI-powered estimates and AI-based management, right?<\/p>\n

So the only weapon left is \u201cConstruction Capabilities<\/strong>\". This is the true essence of blue-collar work.\"<\/p>\n

Being a director has its ups and downs\u2014there are busy times and slow times, right?<\/p>\n

Studying for exams and preparing documents are important, but in the meantime, try to get the construction work up to a certain level.<\/p>\n

I believe this is a worthwhile investment in the long run.<\/p>\n

To be honest, the craftsmen might not be too happy about this, lol<\/p>\n

As a slope engineer and civil engineer, the foundation of my career lies not only in drawings and documents, but also in the experience I\u2019ve gained through hands-on construction work.<\/p>\n

In the future, should project managers be the ones to learn about construction!?<\/p>\n

I think companies with managers who can ride that wave will definitely become stronger.<\/p>\n
