Why Do Even Experienced Professionals Make Basic Mistakes?<\/h3>\n

Have you ever encountered a problem on the job that left you wondering, \u201cHow could such a veteran make such a basic mistake?\u201d<\/p>\n

When an accident happens, we tend to say things like, \u201cIt\u2019s complacency from getting used to it,\u201d or \u201cYou should be more careful when working,\u201dWe tend to brush it off as just a matter of mindset<\/strong>That's it.
\nHowever, due to the way the human brain works,\"Gaining experience and getting used to the work\" itself can be a cause of serious errors.<\/strong>You could also say that.<\/p>\n

In this article, we\u2019ll use the \u201cSRK Model\u201d\u2014which explains the mechanisms behind human behavior\u2014to examine \u201cassumptions\u201d and \u201cmisunderstandings\u201d that occur on the job, and consider how we might prevent them.<\/p>\n

SRK Model<\/strong><\/h2>\n

According to the \"SRK Model,\" which is well-known in the field of ergonomics, the process by which a person processes information and takes action is,<\/p>\n

We categorize these into the following three levels (loops) based on the degree of cognitive load.<\/p>\n

    Knowledge Base (Knowledge):<\/strong>\u00a0This involves taking action in situations you\u2019re facing for the first time\u2014situations for which there is no manual. In order to interpret the situation, reason through it in your head, and plan a course of action,It requires the most advanced information processing and places a heavy burden on the brain.<\/strong>That's the situation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Rule-Based (Rule):<\/strong>\u00a0Recognize the situation and decide, \u201cIn this case, I\u2019ll do this,\u201dRules, manuals, and past regulations<\/strong>It is an action taken in response to that.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Skill-Based (Skill):<\/strong>\u00a0These are actions (habitual behaviors) performed unconsciously, relying solely on automatic sensations and movements.It places the least strain on the brain and allows for quick processing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Why Do Experienced Workers Work So Fast?<\/h3>\n

    People unconsciously find ways to reduce the strain on their brains when performing tasks they do frequently in their daily lives.<\/p>\n

    When you're new on the job, you work by referring to the manual\u2014thinking, \"According to this manual, this is how it's done...\" (knowledge-based). But as you gain experience, you work by recalling the manual\u2014thinking, \"This is how it's done according to this procedure...\" (rule-based).
    \nAnd as you gain experience, you\u2019ll eliminate the need to constantly assess the situation and check the rules, replacing those steps with an automatic \u201cskill-based\u201d loop.
    \nThe reason experienced workers are fast and smooth isn't because they're cutting corners, but because their brains process tasks efficiently based on their skills.<\/strong>It can be said that...<\/p>\n

    \"Misconceptions\" That Experienced People Fall Into<\/h3>\n

    However, there are pitfalls (sources of errors) lurking in skill-based processing.<\/p>\n

    When a situation arises that is slightly different from usual\u2014such as when there are signs of an anomaly or on a day when special instructions differ from the norm\u2014you should normally pause to assess the situation and reconsider your approach based on \u201crules\u201d or \u201cknowledge.\u201d
    \nHowever,People with limited experience or seasoned veterans<\/strong>Since I'm completely used to the work,We unconsciously end up forcing our way through irregular situations\u2014which should actually be handled using a \u201crule-based\u201d approach\u2014using our usual \u201cskill-based\u201d approach.<\/strong>\u3002<\/p>\n

    Because of things like this, people say things like, \u201cI thought it was business as usual,\u201d or \u201cI misunderstood,\u201dSerious errors (mistakes) caused by mix-ups or misconceptions<\/strong>...becomes more likely to occur.<\/p>\n
