This is Enta.<\/p>\n

Since I get asked about this quite often, I thought I\u2019d write about it.<\/p>\n

People who transition from being craftsmen to construction managers<\/strong><\/span>I mean, you see people like that sometimes, don't you?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Compared to people who go straight into construction management right after joining the company, it just feels like a higher hurdle...<\/p>\n

I mean, aren't there a lot of people who just don't know where to start?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

People who enter the construction management field right out of college start with no knowledge of the job site, so they can absorb things with an open mind, thinking, \u201cOh, that\u2019s just how it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

But craftsmen are different.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s that situation where you know the ins and outs of the field work, but you have absolutely no clue about the paperwork and administrative side of things, right?<\/p>\n

It's something I feel like I know, but I don't really know.<\/p>\n

So today, I took a moment to think about the best order to learn construction management from the perspective of a slope contractor.<\/p>\n

\"Work<\/p>\n

\n

\u2460 First, try writing down the \u201cconstruction sequence\u201d on a piece of paper to organize your thoughts.<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Skilled craftsmen already know the construction process instinctively.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s a huge difference between \u201ckind of understanding\u201d and \u201cbeing able to explain the sequence.\u201d<\/p>\n

To manage a construction site as a construction manager, you need to be able to articulate the overall flow of the project.<\/p>\n

Putting things into words is extremely important!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For example, in the case of ground anchor construction,<\/p>\n

Machine Installation \u2192 Drilling \u2192 Anchor Insertion \u2192 Grout Injection \u2192 Curing \u2192 Tensioning and Setting \u2192 Head Finishing<\/p>\n

Can you write down this sequence on your own?<\/p>\n

If you can write, you're still safe lol<\/p>\n

It'd be bad if I couldn't write, lol.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly, there are quite a few people who can say things out loud but can't put them down on paper.<\/p>\n

Next, we'll work out the details of this installation.<\/p>\n

Imagine and write down everything that happens from the moment you get on the vehicle until the job is finished.<\/p>\n

If you're just starting out in construction management, it's a great idea to begin by writing down the construction sequence for the trades you'll be overseeing.<\/p>\n

As I write, there are parts where I realize, \u201cWait, what was the order here again?\u201d<\/p>\n

This is where the gap in understanding lies.<\/p>\n

Learning construction management means filling in those gaps one by one.<\/p>\n

And this is linked to the schedule.<\/p>\n

\"Construction<\/p>\n

\u2461 Make it a habit to check the work specifications in the \u201cdesign documents\u201d<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Skilled craftsmen can do their work by simply saying, \u201cThis is how I always do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that won't cut it for construction management.<\/p>\n

You need to be able to answer questions such as \u201cWhy do you do it that way?\u201d, \u201cWhat is the basis for that?\u201d, and \u201cOn what page of the book is that written?\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Trade-specific standards\" refer to the construction standards established for each trade.<\/p>\n

For example,<\/p>\n

\u30fbSpray thickness for sprayed mortar work: The design thickness is 10 cm. What are the specifications? What is the tolerance range? How should it be measured?
\n\u30fbGrout strength for ground anchors: The strength specified in the design (24 N\/mm\u00b2). Where is this specified?<\/p>\n

All of these are clearly specified in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism\u2019s \u201cGeneral Specifications for Civil Engineering Works\u201d and in the civil engineering specifications of each prefecture.<\/p>\n

Civil engineering specifications are the manager's textbook! You really need to read them thoroughly and memorize every detail of your own trade.<\/p>\n

\u2462 Material specifications consist of a combination of \u201cJIS standards and design drawings\u201d<\/h2>\n

\"Material<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

When we talk about material specifications, we're referring to whether the materials used actually meet the required standards.<\/p>\n

The foundation of public works projects is the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) specifications\u2014these are, for now, absolutely essential.<\/p>\n
