This is Enta.<\/p>\n

The other day, I had the opportunity to speak with someone, and during our conversation, there was a remark that really struck a chord with me.<\/p>\n

\"Become someone whose name is known. Make sure people refer to you by your name, not the company's name.\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

The moment I heard that, I thought, \u201cOh, yeah, that\u2019s totally it,\u201d lol.<\/p>\n

\"Meeting\"<\/p>\n

You know those people who act all high and mighty just because of their company's name, right? lol<\/p>\n

To be honest, I think anyone in the industry would understand, but,<\/p>\n

People who work under the \"Company Name\"<\/strong>That actually happens quite a lot.<\/p>\n

In our industry, site managers at major general contractors are a classic example of that, lol (shhh... lol)<\/p>\n

Like, \u201cWe\u2019re \u25cb\u25cb Construction, after all.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll give you credit for working hard in that environment, but what\u2019s with acting all high and mighty toward subcontractors and treating your junior colleagues and subordinates that way?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Clients and general contractor representatives who make unreasonable demands on-site are, for the most part,Confident thanks to the company's backing<\/strong>This is a common pattern.<\/p>\n

In our line of work, that\u2019s what\u2019s commonly called \u201ctaking a loss on a job\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

When it comes to how people are as individuals, there are actually quite a few who fall into a gray area, lol.<\/p>\n

It's the same with politicians, isn't it?<\/p>\n

There are two types of people: those who act differently depending on their title\u2014like members of the Diet or local government leaders\u2014and those who are naturally humble and polite to everyone.<\/p>\n

Even though they hold the same \u201chigh-ranking position,\u201d their character as human beings is completely different.<\/p>\n

Well, I suppose if you were in that position, there would be circumstances that left you \u201cwith no choice but to do it,\u201d but it\u2019s also true that some people still feel that\u2019s going too far.<\/p>\n

\"Instructions\"<\/p>\n

If the company's name were to disappear, who would we be?<\/h2>\n

I think this is the crux of the matter, but,<\/p>\n

Like, they stopped getting in touch as soon as they retired, or something like that.<\/p>\n

Like, \"Once the company went bankrupt, nobody would deal with us anymore,\" or something like that.<\/p>\n

Stories like that aren't uncommon.<\/p>\n

In short,Whether you\u2019re trusted simply as \u201cMr.\/Ms. \u25ce\u25ce\u201d rather than as \u201cMr.\/Ms. \u25ce\u25ce from Company \u25cb\u25cb\u201d<\/strong>...that's the story.<\/p>\n

Is that why they're being called that\u2014because their company name or title is attached to it?<\/p>\n

Or is it that people think, \u201cI want to ask that person because it\u2019s them\u201d?<\/p>\n

This difference is,The quality of the work I have built up over the years and my personal attitude<\/strong>I don't think there's anything else.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It's easier to understand when you see it in action.<\/p>\n

Even among people who\u2019ve been working as slope engineers for 20 years, there are those who are said to be \u201cthe ones you can always count on,\u201d and<\/p>\n

It\u2019s completely different from someone who gives the impression that \u201cif you ask that company, someone will come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only the results of our work, but also,Attention to detail in planning, prompt reporting, and on-site communication<\/strong>\u3002<\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s that accumulation of small things that ultimately becomes a \u201cname.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Sprayed<\/p>\n

\"How to Build a Reputation\" as a Civil Engineer or Slope Engineer<\/h2>\n

When it comes to civil engineering work, ultimately...Everything you see\u2014the structure and the finish\u2014is all there is<\/strong>That's just how it is.<\/p>\n

The completed bridge, the beautifully finished sprayed mortar surface, and the firmly anchored formwork.<\/p>\n

That's all the average person sees.<\/p>\n

But behind all that,It\u2019s the result of the tremendous efforts of the craftsmen and the director<\/strong>\u3002<\/p>\n

When it rains, we worry about drainage; when the condition of the natural ground changes, we reevaluate our construction methods; and even when it comes to something as simple as curing concrete, we have to keep an eye on the temperature and humidity.<\/p>\n

If you install ground anchors like that, they'll end up buried deep in the natural ground...No one can see it<\/strong>\u3002<\/p>\n

Even a sprayed slope looks like \u201cjust a slope\u201d once it\u2019s finished.<\/p>\n

To the average person, it\u2019s just \u201cthey were doing something\u201d and that\u2019s it, lol.<\/p>\n

It is precisely this \u201cbehind-the-scenes effort\u201d that presents the greatest opportunity to make a name for yourself.<\/strong>That's what I think.<\/p>\n

The reason is, anyone who knows what's going on has already figured it all out, lol.<\/p>\n

The client I worked with as a site representative, the general contractor\u2019s site manager, and other contractors working next to us.<\/p>\n

To someone like that\u2014someone who \u201cknows the field\u201d\u2014it looks like,Whether they're cutting corners, whether their planning is good or bad, and whether they run away when problems arise<\/strong>...which means he sees right through everything!<\/p>\n

Someone who knows what went on behind the scenes to achieve that beautiful result,<\/p>\n

They keep telling me, \u201cYou can trust that person,\u201d \u201cAsk that craftsman to do it,\u201d and \u201cThat director is great!\u201d<\/p>\n

That's how it is in the world of civil engineeringHow to Market Your Name<\/strong>I think so.<\/p>\n

\"Instructions\"<\/p>\n

\"Name Savings\" from My Youth<\/h2>\n

Another thing I'm thinking is, \u201c\"Name\" is something you save up when you're young<\/strong>That's the point.<\/p>\n

People who pushed themselves to the limit on demanding projects in their 20s and 30s\u2014and kept working without backing down even in unreasonable situations\u2014are the ones who are recognized in their 40s and beyond.<\/p>\n

This is by no means meant to endorse exploitative working conditions, and<\/p>\n

\"Tough experiences give a name its weight.\"<\/strong>That's the story.<\/p>\n

People who have only ever worked on easy projects aren\u2019t the ones you\u2019ll turn to when the going gets tough. (People who\u2019ve faced challenges are especially strong, aren\u2019t they?)<\/p>\n

Anyway, when it comes to grueling work sites, in that sense...It's my only chance to make a name for myself<\/strong>You could say that, lol<\/p>\n

I feel like the number of tough situations I\u2019ve overcome directly contributes to the \u201cweight\u201d of my name.<\/p>\n

\"Trial\"<\/p>\n

The company's sign is on loan.<\/h2>\n

I'll return it when I retire, and if I change jobs, I'll work for a different company.<\/p>\n

ButYour name is with you for life<\/strong>That's it.<\/p>\n

As a slope engineer, as a civil engineer,Whether I can become the kind of person people say, \u201cLet\u2019s ask that person for help\u201d<\/strong>\u3002<\/p>\n

What kind of person is he? What kind of engineer is he? What kind of craftsman is he?<\/p>\n

I think that\u2019s probably my biggest motivation for staying on the job.<\/p>\n

Let's strive to become the kind of person who can succeed on our own merits, rather than relying on the company's name.<\/p>\n

If people start calling me \u201cEnta!\u201d, I\u2019ll do my best to make sure everyone across the country knows I\u2019m \u201cthe Slope Guy\u201d! ^^<\/p>\n
