This is about a certain construction site\u2014there\u2019s a spot where the mountain is slowly shifting and pushing against a structure.<\/p>\n

As a countermeasure, it is reported that an expert panel was convened, consisting of representatives from the local government, the general contractor, the general contractor\u2019s engineers, the subcontractor\u2019s technical specialists, and a university professor (specializing in landslides) invited by the local government.<\/p>\n

Ground anchors had been installed on the slope, and we were told that one of them was already on the verge of breaking, which is why the lift-off could not be performed.<\/p>\n

About 90% of the breaking load!!?<\/p>\n

A considerable amount of spring water is seeping out onto the surface of the slope.<\/p>\n

Based on the current symptoms at first glance, draining the water is the first step to stabilizing the mountain.<\/p>\n

So, let\u2019s go with the general contractor\u2019s proposal to install a drain!<\/p>\n

First, I\u2019ll drain the water and see if it stabilizes.<\/p>\n

If that doesn't work, I think we'll have to resort to ground anchors.<\/p>\n

But at that meeting, it\u2019s the university professors\u2019 opinions that always get through! lol<\/p>\n

It seems that opinions from the field rarely get a hearing, and the government officials just take the teacher\u2019s word for it, saying, \u201cIf the teacher says so, let\u2019s go with that!\u201d<\/p>\n

So, I'm skipping the draining and just going to wait and see lol<\/p>\n

The problem here is that the government is partly to blame, too.<\/p>\n

That's because the government just dumps all the responsibility on the teachers.<\/p>\n

Even if something were to happen, since we have the teacher\u2019s opinion on our side, the government officials wouldn\u2019t have anything to fear, right? lol<\/p>\n

But you're not really getting to the heart of the matter, are you?<\/p>\n

And even though the professor specializes in landslides, he isn't an expert on the site itself.<\/p>\n

The theory, calculations, and mechanics behind landslides are probably a specialized field.<\/p>\n

However, I\u2019m a complete novice when it comes to figuring out how to make those decisions and put them into practice on the job.<\/p>\n

Practical experience and theory don't always align!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In civil engineering, experience is everything!<\/p>\n

That is why it is called \"experience engineering.\"<\/p>\n

From there, we build on that to develop calculations and theories.<\/p>\n

Despite this, it is utterly foolish to disregard the opinions of those on the front lines and simply apply the textbook.<\/p>\n

It would be better, though, if the teacher and the staff on site were to hold thorough, close consultations and move the project forward together.<\/p>\n

At the expert panel meeting, it was the university professors' opinions that prevailed rather than those from the front lines, leaving the front-line staff needlessly at their mercy...<\/p>\n

I'm actually at a scene that's totally crazy lol<\/p>\n

Being a general contractor seems really tough...<\/p>\n

If we did it now, we could probably just quickly dig a drainage ditch to stabilize the ground, though...<\/p>\n
