My Experience Going to a Job Interview for a Technical Intern (Part 5)<\/a><\/p>\nA 500-rupee hotel<\/h3>\n If you're just staying at a regular hotel, the minimum rate in Tokyo, Japan, is 15,000 yen, right?<\/p>\n
Starting at 7,000 yen in Aichi Prefecture as well<\/p>\n
It's not much different even in regional cities.<\/p>\n
But in Kathmandu, Nepal, that's the kind of hotel where regular people stay lol<\/p>\n
The daily wage for a construction worker in Nepal is about 1,000 yen.<\/p>\n
Their master-level instructors charge around 1,500 yen.<\/p>\n
That's roughly one-tenth the size of Japan, right?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Given the cost of living there, a 500-rupee hotel is about 550 yen.<\/p>\n
Here's what it looks like from the outside<\/p>\n
It's pretty nice, isn't it? ^^<\/p>\n
The first floor is a restaurant!<\/p>\n
Guests can enjoy a meal for just 200 rupees.<\/p>\n
It's the best.<\/p>\n

Here's what the room looks like<\/p>\n
It was early December, and the temperature ranged from about 20\u00b0 during the day to about 5\u00b0 at night.<\/p>\n
It's super cold at night, but I'm just using this tiny, thin blanket tucked away in the corner of my bed\u2014I almost feel bad for it lol<\/p>\n
For some reason, there are two pillows lol<\/p>\n
It's a semi-double size.<\/p>\n
And the bed is basically just a board\u2014it\u2019s pretty firm, lol.<\/p>\n

Wow, this is really great!!!<\/p>\n
I really love this Nepalese vibe!!!<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The day before that, I also stayed at a hotel that cost 1,500 rupees.<\/p>\n
Here it is<\/p>\n1,500-rupee hotel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThis won't do!<\/p>\n
It's not the least bit interesting, and it doesn't have any \"Nepal vibe\" at all! (What even is a \"Nepal vibe\"? lol)<\/p>\n
That said, the only good thing was that no hot water came out\u2014that was a definite plus lol.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And here\u2019s the bathroom and shower room at this 500-rupee hotel.<\/p>\n
Of course, there's no hot water!!! (\u25ce)<\/p>\n
And there's no water either!! (\u25ce\u25ce\u25ce)<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It's even colder than hell!<\/p>\n
It's the ultimate Nepal experience.<\/p>\n
This is a typical hotel in Nepal.<\/p>\n
In the summer, there's an abnormally fast fan attached to the ceiling.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
That's the best part of traveling abroad, isn't it?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
What I want everyone to know is,It means there isn't any.<\/strong><\/p>\nWhen you visit developing countries overseas, it\u2019s normal for things to be \u201cmissing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Learn from what you don't have<\/h3>\n
I hear they're going to build a fence here and put up a house.<\/p>\n
All done by hand.<\/p>\n
How do we Japanese go about installing machinery?<\/p>\n
We'll think about how to use the machine.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In Nepal, people don't think that way.<\/p>\n
Grab a shovel and dig by hand.<\/p>\n
How many people will dig, and how many will carry the load?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Because,Because there isn't any!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nHow do you level something?<\/p>\n
Where should I align it?<\/p>\n
Where should I put the dirt, and where should I put the rocks??<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
That's the basics of civil engineering, isn't it?<\/p>\n
We\u2019re still doing by hand what our ancestors used to do.<\/p>\n
Well, the technology of Japan's forebears is even more advanced, lol.<\/p>\n
During this trip to Nepal, I also had the opportunity to tour construction and civil engineering sites.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It's all kinds of hands-on work we never would have imagined, and it's a lot of fun.<\/p>\n
That said, the slope contractors are still building the formwork by hand, though lol.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
What we don't have teaches us a lesson.<\/p>\n
What do you do when you don't have it?<\/p>\n
Don't say, \"I can't do it because I don't have it\"; instead, ask, \"How can I do it even though I don't have it?\"<\/p>\n
We\u2019ll carry out the work while maintaining quality as best we can, given the circumstances.<\/p>\n
Since I\u2019m making the trip from Japan to another country, I hope this will provide some interesting stories and learning opportunities.<\/p>\n

By the way, the hotel is freezing cold, so I have to sleep with my jacket and pants on.<\/p>\n
