I think this is common knowledge these days, but,<\/p>\n
Do the ropes on the slope extend all the way to the bottom of the slope?<\/p>\n

Do you know why the main rope is lowered all the way to the foot of the slope?<\/p>\n

Well, this is pretty basic, but,<\/p>\n
In the past, there were quite a few accidents on slopes where the lollipop would slip out of the main rope attached to the slope and fall.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As a countermeasure, it was decided that the ends of the main rope must always be tied into a knot!<\/p>\n
Eventually, many contractors failed to comply with this requirement, which ultimately made it mandatory to lower a rope all the way to the base of the structure.<\/p>\n
Also, there was a time when someone said that tying one main rope to another is dangerous because you have to unclip the carabiner when moving to the lower main rope!<\/p>\n
Well, basically, the big companies stick to this strictly, while local businesses are kind of in the middle, I guess~ lol<\/p>\n

However, there is one thing about this that\u2019s a little scary.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Suppose there is a worker rappelling down a slope using a main rope.<\/p>\n
If the section below that worker collapses, the main rope will get caught up in the collapse!<\/p>\n

When that happens, the main rope is pulled downward.<\/p>\n
And since the main rope is secured at the top, it stays taut!<\/p>\n

The worker hanging there will be lifted up!<\/p>\n
Whaaaaaat!!! You've got to be kidding me!!!!!!?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n That's exactly what happened right in front of me!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fortunately, the rope didn't snap, and I was just left hanging in the air about 2 meters up, so it wasn't too bad, but,<\/p>\n I wonder what would have happened if the rope had snapped while I was hanging in midair.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The safety rope kept me from falling, but I never would have expected it to get caught up in the collapse.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After seeing that, I started wondering if having a long safety rope has its pros and cons.
