This is Enta.<\/p>\n

When Changing Jobs or Looking for a Job, Who Is That Work For??<\/p>\n

Since there have been many times when I\u2019ve thought that, I decided to give writing this a try.<\/p>\n

\"Spray-Applied<\/p>\n

The Choice to \"Make a Living in the Slope Stabilization Industry\"<\/h2>\n

We face the slopes, battle the cliffs, and remain on site despite being at the mercy of the weather.<\/p>\n

This is the job I chose\u2014slope engineer.<\/p>\n

As the saying goes: dirty, dangerous, and low pay.<\/p>\n

I set out early in the morning, and on my way to the site, all sorts of thoughts cross my mind.<\/p>\n

In a fleeting moment...<\/p>\n

Is this life really my \u201ctrue\u201d life?
\n<\/span>Is working in the construction industry something I was forced into, or something I chose?
\n<\/span>Is it enough just to be able to eat?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Is work in the construction industry just \u201cwork you\u2019re forced to do\u201d?<\/h2>\n

\"Because I didn't have anything else to do.\"<\/p>\n

\"Because my boss asked me to.\"<\/p>\n

\"Because I wanted to learn a trade.\"<\/p>\n

\"For now\"<\/p>\n

\"That boss was so cool.\"<\/p>\n

\"A friend invited me\"<\/p>\n

I think there are a lot of people who joined for that very reason.<\/p>\n

\"Freedom<\/p>\n

As the years go by working on-site, you come to notice the movement of the mountain, the character of the slope, the tension of the anchors, the quality of the sprayed concrete, the atmosphere on site, the smells\u2014<\/p>\n

No matter what anyone says, once you get started, there comes a moment when you feel a sense of \u201cresponsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"If I'm going to do it, I might as well go all out!!\" (There are tons of people like that.)<\/p>\n

\u201cA Job That Supports \u201dHuman Life\u201d<\/h2>\n

Beyond the embankment are houses. There\u2019s a river, and there\u2019s a road.<\/p>\n

There are school routes. There are the lives of people who are important to us.<\/p>\n

Our work quietly supports them behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

A structure that no one notices. (It's so super secret that no one even notices it, lol.)<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s us slope engineers who ensure that \u201cit doesn\u2019t collapse\u201d\u2014something we take for granted.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

So, is this my life?<\/h2>\n

To be honest, there isn't just one answer.<\/p>\n

But here's what I think.<\/p>\n

Working hard for others,<\/span>
\nOnce you start thinking of it as \u201cpride\u201d or \u201cresponsibility,\u201d<\/span>
\nIs that really my life now?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Isn't it okay to take pride in working in the slope stabilization industry (construction)?<\/h2>\n

It's tough. It's dirty. No one notices. Summer is hot. Winter is cold. I can't read the kanji on the slope!!?<\/p>\n

But it supports someone\u2019s \u201csafety\u201d and \u201cfuture.\u201d<\/p>\n

It might not be such a bad idea to see your own life reflected in a job like that.<\/p>\n

If anything, our industry tends to be looked down upon.<\/p>\n

A low-paying job that was mentioned on some website a while back,<\/p>\n

Even though it's said to be an industry where the dregs of society gather, once you get started, it's actually pretty fun!<\/p>\n

At first, the interns worked mainly to support their families, but as they neared graduation (in their third year), they started to think, \u201cThis job is fun!\u201d<\/p>\n

They tell me, \u201cI want to keep doing this job.\u201d<\/p>\n

And then, at the end, I say, \u201cThe pay is great!\u201d lol. That\u2019s a perfectly good reason, too, right?<\/p>\n

\"Women<\/p>\n

A life spent on a slope. That really is \u201cmy own life,\u201d isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

It's not someone else's life, is it?<\/p>\n

I decided on my own and got started on my own.<\/p>\n

Whatever the initial reason may have been, I\u2019m having a pretty good time now.<\/p>\n

If I'm going to do it anyway, I might as well enjoy my work\u2014even when things get tough, the work itself is fun.<\/p>\n

Interpersonal relationships are the same in any job, after all.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m working as a slope maintenance worker with the intention of spending the rest of my life in this line of work!<\/p>\n
