{"id":54001,"date":"2025-03-13T08:00:33","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T23:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/?p=54001"},"modified":"2026-05-16T15:39:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T06:39:58","slug":"good-vs-bad-supervisor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/norimen.net\/en\/good-vs-bad-supervisor\/","title":{"rendered":"Let's think about what makes a good coach and a bad coach."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.<\/p>\n<p>This is Enta.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38938\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/880443dd0f31099796b093f9717a4a98.jpg\" alt=\"Site Supervisor\" width=\"600\" height=\"460\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Profit margins can vary depending on the site supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As anyone in the construction business knows, there are good supervisors and bad ones.<\/p>\n<p>This kind of debate is common in the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, there are good construction crews and bad ones, right? lol<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, this time I\u2019ll break it down into \u201cgood coaches\u201d and \u201cbad coaches\u201d (as someone who used to be a coach myself, lol).<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"28\" data-end=\"44\"><strong data-start=\"32\" data-end=\"44\">\u2705 A Good Site Supervisor<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\" data-start=\"45\" data-end=\"434\">\n<li data-start=\"45\" data-end=\"81\"><strong data-start=\"47\" data-end=\"63\">The process is well-organized and efficient<\/strong>(Smooth coordination of materials, personnel, and processes)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"82\" data-end=\"123\"><strong data-start=\"84\" data-end=\"103\">Creating a Work Environment That Is Easy for Craftsmen to Work In<\/strong>(The worksite is properly organized, well-lit, and managed for safety)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"124\" data-end=\"158\"><strong data-start=\"126\" data-end=\"142\">The instructions are precise and easy to understand.<\/strong>(Clearly communicate who should do what)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"159\" data-end=\"193\"><strong data-start=\"161\" data-end=\"191\">Frequently visit the job site and communicate with the workers<\/strong>(This might be the most important thing.)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"220\"><strong data-start=\"196\" data-end=\"218\">Share information about changes to drawings and specifications as early as possible<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"221\" data-end=\"256\"><strong data-start=\"223\" data-end=\"243\">Don't impose an unreasonable schedule<\/strong>(Good at coordinating processes)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"257\" data-end=\"297\"><strong data-start=\"259\" data-end=\"274\">Quick response to problems<\/strong>(Take responsibility for handling it yourself\u2014don\u2019t drag the craftsmen into it lol. There are some people who just pass everything off to subcontractors.)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"298\" data-end=\"338\"><strong data-start=\"300\" data-end=\"321\">Respect subcontractors and ensure proper management and progress tracking<\/strong>(Breaks, days off, piecework, etc.)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"339\" data-end=\"371\"><strong data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"356\">Ensure thorough safety management<\/strong>(Hazard Awareness and Strict Compliance with Rules)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"372\" data-end=\"399\"><strong data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"397\">Understand the skills and opinions of artisans and make appropriate use of them<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"434\"><strong data-start=\"402\" data-end=\"420\">They are very polite and courteous<\/strong>(Valuing relationships)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"439\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"457\"><strong data-start=\"445\" data-end=\"457\">\u274c Bad Site Supervisor<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"834\">\n<li data-start=\"458\" data-end=\"498\"><strong data-start=\"460\" data-end=\"476\">Poor planning causes delays in the production process<\/strong>(Materials aren't arriving, and the workers are just waiting around.)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"499\" data-end=\"539\"><strong data-start=\"501\" data-end=\"517\">Making craftsmen do unnecessary work<\/strong>(Frequent rework and wasted effort due to poor planning)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"576\"><strong data-start=\"542\" data-end=\"557\">The instructions are vague and haphazard.<\/strong>(There are a lot of \"Just get it done for now\" requests.)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"577\" data-end=\"614\"><strong data-start=\"579\" data-end=\"599\">They don't come to the site, and they don't talk to the workers.<\/strong>(I tend to stay cooped up in the office or my car, and since I work night shifts, sleeping in the car is fine, but...)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"645\"><strong data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"643\">Hiding or failing to communicate changes to drawings or specifications until the last minute<\/strong>(Even if you can't read blueprints)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"646\" data-end=\"677\"><strong data-start=\"648\" data-end=\"665\">Forcing unreasonable deadlines and overtime<\/strong>(Sloppy process management)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"704\"><strong data-start=\"680\" data-end=\"702\">When problems arise, they shift the blame onto the craftsmen<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"731\"><strong data-start=\"707\" data-end=\"729\">Safety management is lax, resulting in a high risk of accidents<\/strong>(Lack of imagination or lack of experience)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"732\" data-end=\"768\"><strong data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"753\">Looking down on craftsmen and acting arrogantly<\/strong>(\u201cIt\u2019s Just a Given\u201d Mindset)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"798\"><strong data-start=\"771\" data-end=\"786\">Cause payment problems<\/strong>(Unpaid Wages, Shortfall in Output, Delays)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"799\" data-end=\"834\"><strong data-start=\"801\" data-end=\"821\">Lack of greetings and manners; (Although, of course, capable people tend to be popular.)<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I think it\u2019s way too optimistic (I have to watch my boss\u2019s reaction), so people who work at a company can\u2019t use it lol.<\/p>\n<p>The construction site is where a site supervisor really shows what they're made of!<\/p>\n<p>It's not a company. (That said, it really is tough for the big companies, isn't it?)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d like them to strike a good balance in that regard as well, but at the end of the day, it\u2019s all about the field!<\/p>\n<p>The field operations generate revenue, receive recognition, and pave the way for future success!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let's become great coaches!<\/p>\n<p>With the right mindset, you can become a great coach!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>See you later.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.
