autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>If you watch the video, you can see that the collapse started near the top of the slope.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, it seems some people have been affected by the disaster, so I hope they take good care of themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Could this disaster have been prevented?<\/p>\n<p>I'm going to try to think about that.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I\u2019m not actually involved, and this is just my opinion based on watching the video.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-51614\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/043901ea2022bf1c3b7c9f1feeda07fd.jpg\" alt=\"Collapse\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/043901ea2022bf1c3b7c9f1feeda07fd.jpg 600w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/043901ea2022bf1c3b7c9f1feeda07fd-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see in the video, the slope is collapsing from the top after the formwork was installed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Actually, collapses like this are quite common at disaster sites.<\/p>\n<p>At first glance, it appears that the slide is originating from a point about 2 meters back from the surface of the slope following the collapse.<\/p>\n<p>I'm sure you understand this well as a slope contractor, but,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">There's no way I could ever know (or understand) if this is going to fall apart.<\/span><\/strong><\/span>Right?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Slope maintenance crews generally decide to remove loose material (thin layers) first when cleaning slopes, since it looks like it might collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The golden rule is to let it fall first if it looks like it's going to fall.<\/p>\n<p>We'll also remove loose rocks and other debris as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>But there's no way to know that it would collapse from deeper inside, like it did this time.<\/p>\n<p>If the mountain is this unstable, they must be driving anchor pins from the top down to stabilize the mesh.<\/p>\n<p>So that means it didn't fall apart then, right?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>People who aren't familiar with mountains often say that you should thoroughly inspect the natural terrain, but,<\/p>\n<p>In our line of work, things don\u2019t collapse in increments of 1 cm or 2 cm\u2014they collapse from 1 m, 2 m, or even deeper inside.<\/p>\n<p>From a slope engineer\u2019s perspective, it\u2019s like, \u201cThere\u2019s no way I can see that far back!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I imagine you're wondering, \"Did the safety officer check it?\" but,<\/p>\n<p>It would be so much easier if I could just check it and find out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-49051\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/3.jpg\" alt=\"Slope Collapse\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It's the same at a site I worked on previously.<\/p>\n<p>Just as we finished installing the formwork and were putting up the formwork frames, the structure collapsed from above.<\/p>\n<p>It's impossible to predict when something will collapse.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-42761\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/DSC_0406.jpg\" alt=\"Slope Collapse\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/DSC_0406.jpg 600w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/DSC_0406-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of mountains that continue to crumble even after construction is complete.<\/p>\n<p>It's not that we don't inspect it, but if there are no abnormalities at first glance, then the checklist is fine...<\/p>\n<p>It's hard to make a judgment based solely on an inspection of the natural ground, isn't it?<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s truly a blessing in disguise that there were no fatalities in an accident like this one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a future challenge, I\u2019d like to think about what kinds of measures we can take in situations like this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>See you later.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.
