The other dayYoung Doctor Who Committed Suicide After Working 100 Consecutive Shifts and Over 207 Hours of Overtime Per Month Recognized as a Work-Related Death<\/span><\/strong><\/span>and,<\/p>\n The hospital's director and others were referred to prosecutors.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is a terrible story, but it happens in the construction industry, too!<\/p>\n Especially the grueling job sites run by major general contractors.<\/p>\n This is a crazy construction site with offices for dams, tunnels, national highways, NEXCO, and others.<\/p>\n Even here locally, there are occasional projects\u2014like those on national highways managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism\u2014that are quite demanding.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n That said, even though things are definitely heading in the right direction now, with the deadline looming, there\u2019s no room for excuses,<\/p>\n With no new staff being hired, the supervisor is the only one left to deal with the daily paperwork.<\/p>\n Are national, prefectural, and municipal government employees\u2014who advocate for efficiency through construction DX\u2014still submitting documents on paper without making the switch?<\/p>\n Should I print out the test? Should I add index tabs to make it easier to understand?<\/p>\n An inspector who asks, \u201cWhat exactly should I look for when it comes to ICT?\u201d...<\/p>\n I even sent an email, but ended up having to call anyway lol<\/p>\n 200 hours of overtime a month\u2014that means working 30 days and putting in about 7 hours of overtime a day\u2014is pure hell.<\/p>\n If it were just a week or so, I could still handle it, but after that, my brain just shuts down.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n There was definitely a time in the past when I used to do that much.<\/p>\n But things are different now.<\/p>\n An era when you shouldn't work that much.<\/p>\n We\u2019re in an era where we no longer have to work.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n However, my sense of personal responsibility gets in the way, and since I can\u2019t cause trouble for the general contractor, I guess I have no choice.<\/p>\n I think this is the kind of feeling that drives everyone.<\/p>\n That was fine until now, but things will be different from now on.<\/p>\n This means we need to be bold enough to accept that we can\u2019t shorten the construction period even slightly.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As soon as it became clear that proceeding with construction as usual would not allow us to meet the deadline,<\/p>\n Since the general contractor cannot meet the standard schedule, it has no choice but to negotiate an extension of the construction period with the local government.<\/p>\n I have a feeling that kind of conversation might come up in the future.<\/p>\n Unless, of course, the construction schedule is extended.<\/p>\n The same goes for the \"2024 Problem,\" doesn't it?<\/p>\n At our company, too, we try to avoid overtime as much as possible!<\/p>\n ...is what they say.<\/p>\n It would be too late to start saying this once April 2024 rolls around, so I\u2019m saying it now, and<\/p>\n Our consulting social insurance and labor consultant is also keeping a close eye on overtime.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I can't work overtime, but I won't be able to finish unless I do.<\/p>\n It's the kind of era where you just want to say, \"What am I supposed to do?!\"...<\/p>\n To be honest, as things stand right now, there\u2019s no way out for small and medium-sized independent contractors like us!<\/p>\n Is the plan to closely monitor the actions of prime contractors and general contractors and follow their lead?<\/p>\n Are you going to consult with a local professional (certified social insurance and labor consultant) to establish your company's own standards?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It's still a difficult issue, but for now, we're moving forward with the goal of not working overtime!
