{"id":48843,"date":"2023-04-15T08:00:34","date_gmt":"2023-04-14T23:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/?p=48843"},"modified":"2026-05-17T13:51:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T04:51:14","slug":"hole-length-measurement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/norimen.net\/en\/hole-length-measurement\/","title":{"rendered":"Methods and Principles for Measuring Drill Hole Length"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.<\/p>\n<p>This is Enta.<\/p>\n<p>Since quite a few people find the concept of drilling depth confusing, I\u2019d like to explain it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let's start by talking about the basics.<\/p>\n<p>The drilling length refers to the length of the drilled hole.<\/p>\n<p>So why is it so hard to measure the drilled hole length?<\/p>\n<p>That's because there's some fabric left over!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For those who've never heard of it, you're probably like, \"What's 'remaining length' even supposed to mean???\" lol<\/p>\n<p>The casing for drilling is 1.5 meters long.<\/p>\n<p>However, let's assume that, due to the machine's specifications, it cannot drill holes deeper than 1.2 meters.<\/p>\n<p>That means there will be 0.3 meters left over.<\/p>\n<p>This excess distance is the distance the machine could not reach the mountain due to scaffolding constraints (it couldn\u2019t get close enough) or because, due to the machine\u2019s specifications, it couldn\u2019t get any closer to the mountain.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the total length is 1.5 meters, but the drilled length is 1.2 meters, which means there is 0.3 meters of leftover material.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let me use an example from actual anchor drilling.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39243\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/9195913ba580195d375e5b74029bffe8-600x460.jpg\" alt=\"Measuring Drilled Hole Length\" width=\"600\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/9195913ba580195d375e5b74029bffe8.jpg 600w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/9195913ba580195d375e5b74029bffe8-300x230.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We are measuring the drilling depth.<\/p>\n<p>The measuring rod is inserted all the way to the very bottom of the casing.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39246\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/34c46c8ec11a50a43e06ddcf89b727e4-600x450.png\" alt=\"How to Measure Drill Hole Length\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/34c46c8ec11a50a43e06ddcf89b727e4.png 600w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/34c46c8ec11a50a43e06ddcf89b727e4-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If I were to draw a picture of the photo above, it would look something like this.<\/p>\n<p>The black arrow indicates the remaining length, and the light blue arrow indicates the total length.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>People often ask, \u201cHow do general contractors insert the measuring rod?\u201d but the principle is simple.<\/p>\n<p>I've simply attached a tape measure to the tip of the Super Yellow.<\/p>\n<p>Also, when you reach the bottom, if you give the tape measure a gentle tug, the tape will snap taut, allowing you to measure the depth.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8300\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/cbc6bff073b991eda885be857093ab0b.jpg\" alt=\"Drill Hole Length Measurement: Super Yellow\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/cbc6bff073b991eda885be857093ab0b.jpg 375w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/cbc6bff073b991eda885be857093ab0b-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The drilling depth is calculated by subtracting the length of the casing protruding from the rock (black arrow) from the total length of the casing (light blue arrow).<\/p>\n<p>In the case of the photo above,<\/p>\n<p>Measuring rod: 26.53 m (light blue arrow)<\/p>\n<p>Remaining length: 1.20 m (black arrow)<\/p>\n<p>Drilling depth: 25.33 m (based on the thickness of the sprayed concrete)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It will look like this. What is this\u2026?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You see them all the time\u2014directors who are really particular about the length of the casing. \u201cThe casing has to be exactly the planned length!\u201d lol<\/p>\n<p>I'm not saying it's wrong. Do you do it because you think that's just the way it is? Or maybe you think that's the easiest way to explain it.<\/p>\n<p>However, ultimately, it is the inspectors\u2014not the general contractor\u2019s supervisors or government officials\u2014who conduct the inspections and make the assessments.<\/p>\n<p>If I could take photos that would make the inspector stop and think, my score would probably go up, right? lol<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>See you later.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.
