The other day, during a main contractor\u2019s safety inspection at a job site, I was called out on my safety harness.<\/p>\n
The issue was with the attachment hardware connecting the safety harness the Vietnamese worker was using to the rope.<\/p>\n
It's what's commonly known as \"loli.\"<\/p>\n

That's the one mentioned above.<\/p>\n
This Lolip doesn't break very often, so I end up using it for quite a while.<\/p>\n
Also, it\u2019s hard to tell if it\u2019s broken, and the Vietnamese person I was working with this time couldn\u2019t tell.<\/p>\n
It wasn't brand-new to begin with.<\/p>\n

Plus, it actually works just fine, lol.<\/p>\n
It works fine, but I had it replaced after being told there was a problem.<\/p>\n

The issue pointed out was that the screw wasn't tightening all the way, so it wasn't acceptable.<\/p>\n
The screw thread seems to have become slightly stripped, so it didn't seem to tighten all the way.<\/p>\n
However, it seems it was still usable because the locking pin fit.<\/p>\n
I believe the law specifies standards for safety devices and fall arrest equipment, so even if just one of them is broken, it could already be illegal.

It\u2019s precisely because these things rarely break that it\u2019s important to inspect them.<\/p>\n
Especially from an objective, third-party perspective!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Even if it\u2019s broken to a degree you wouldn\u2019t normally notice, the person using it doesn\u2019t realize it, does he?<\/p>\n It's because I don't use things that aren't broken.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The normalcy bias that leads us to assume things are safe<\/p>\n <\/p>\n During the morning meeting, we should probably pass the Lollip around and have a few people check it, right?<\/p>\n Once a week seems fine.<\/p>\n If safety can be ensured by something as simple as this, it\u2019s easy, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n You should be especially careful around foreigners, such as Vietnamese people.
