The Industry\u2019s Future as Seen Through the Job-to-Applicant Ratio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.<\/p>\n<p>This is Enta.<\/p>\n<p>The other day, I went to Tokyo and met someone who might possibly visit our home next year.<\/p>\n<p>I know you're probably thinking, \"It's the 28th, the end of the year,\" but it doesn't really affect me lol<\/p>\n<p>Even if it's New Year's Day, I'll probably still go.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48197\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/c1e64eac43466363af6b9da673d577e5.jpg\" alt=\"Construction Industry\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The reason is\u2014do you know just how severe the labor shortage is in the construction industry?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the Koizumi administration slashing our construction budgets left and right, and the media constantly labeling us as the \u201c3K\u201d jobs\u2014hard, dirty, and dangerous\u2014we\u2019re now facing a severe labor shortage!<\/p>\n<p>Amid a situation where it is difficult to bring in foreign workers\u2014with the technical intern program even being called a form of slavery\u2014<\/p>\n<p>\"They might join our team! I want to meet anyone who might be a good fit, just in case!\"<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The \"2025 Problem\" in the construction industry is just two full years away!!<\/p>\n<p>Currently, about 34% of workers in the construction industry are 55 or older, while about 11% are 29 or younger, reflecting an aging workforce...<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 800,000 people aged 60 or older are expected to retire over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>By 2025\u2014just two years from now\u2014the workforce in the construction industry will<span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: 150%;\"><strong>A shortage of about 900,000 people!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It's said that...!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At this point, there's no way I can handle my current workload!<\/p>\n<p>No matter how hard the general contractor works on construction DX or ICT, it\u2019s meaningless if there are no subcontractors to carry it out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned in my recent post complaining about the wastefulness of construction DX, the only thing that\u2019s increasing is the workload for subcontractors.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Since construction DX is implemented on a contractor-by-contractor basis, does that mean it doesn\u2019t have to lead to an overall increase in productivity!?\" href=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/en\/wordpress\/10111223-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Since construction DX is implemented on a contractor-by-contractor basis, does that mean it doesn\u2019t have to lead to an overall increase in productivity!?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some people think that eventually there won't be any people left, and machines will be able to do all the work on their own!<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes people say stuff like that\u2014it's so silly lol<\/p>\n<p>I wonder how many workers they think are working around the ICT machines? lol<\/p>\n<p>They're using rakes and hoes to clear away the soil and debris from the small areas, aren't they?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If we could come up with something revolutionary to replace the formwork used by slope construction companies, that would be great in its own right, but,<\/p>\n<p>Since I'm human, I generally start by thinking about things I can make by hand.<\/p>\n<p>Since that's when mechanization will begin, it's still quite a ways off, I suppose...<\/p>\n<p>If we can create robots that move exactly like humans in about 300 years, then ICT will be complete, lol.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48198\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/3e279acf3ce2c6b5c6034008156fbc70.jpg\" alt=\"Job-to-applicant ratio\" width=\"587\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/3e279acf3ce2c6b5c6034008156fbc70.jpg 587w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/3e279acf3ce2c6b5c6034008156fbc70-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here's the current job-to-applicant ratio!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1. Structural Construction (11.17 times)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> 2. Security (7.54 times)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> 3. Civil Engineering (7.36 times)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> 4. Architectural, Civil Engineering, and Surveying Engineers (7.10 times)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> 5. Mining (6.06 times)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 130%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">*For reference: Caregiving services: 3.33 times; Food preparation: 2.78 times<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A situation where there are more than seven companies for every person!<\/p>\n<p>This is seriously crazy!<\/p>\n<p>Starting three years from now, we\u2019ll definitely need to look for subcontractors nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>From our perspective as subcontractors, this is a happy problem to have, but as for the general contractor...<\/p>\n<p>Local general contractors, in particular, don\u2019t really know much about their subcontractors\u2014I wonder how this will turn out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although the construction industry is a complete seller's market, when the workforce shrinks this much all at once, public works projects will be scaled back, and<\/p>\n<p>The roads are bumpy and the mountains are prone to landslides, so many roads will likely become impassable.<\/p>\n<p>But since there are certain former administrations and media outlets that wanted this, I guess we just have to accept it as is, right? ^^ lol<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48200\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/89b1d3611aa8e0720eaad3ea5bd3c0ef.jpg\" alt=\"Road\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even so, time doesn't stop, so for now, let's just do what we can.<\/p>\n<p>I guess there's no choice but to keep plugging away at it, bit by bit.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d especially like to keep an eye on future job openings, and,<\/p>\n<p>We're planning to keep hiring more and more people from the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>See you later.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello, everyone.
