Just like the other day, I\u2019m going to ramble a bit about some things that made me go, \u201cHuh?\u201d at a study group I attended.<\/p>\n

\"Greasing\"<\/p>\n

As public works contractors, we use materials manufactured by suppliers specifically for public works projects in our construction work.<\/p>\n

To put it simply, the structures we\u2019ve built are generally expected to last about 50 years.<\/p>\n

Well, since that\u2019s the minimum service life for concrete structures, it will likely vary depending on the situation and circumstances.<\/p>\n

And did you know?<\/p>\n

The shelf life of the product known as \"anti-rust oil\" contained in the oil cap for head treatment!<\/p>\n

I hear this rust-preventive oil lasts about 10 years!!<\/p>\n

It's been about 10 years!!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

That really happens, huh? lol<\/p>\n

After that, does the rust-preventive effect gradually weaken, or does it disappear altogether?<\/p>\n

And the fact that they're putting rust-preventive oil in the aluminum caps means that,<\/p>\n

That means we'll need to replace it in 10 years or more, right?<\/p>\n

Who on earth would do something like that???<\/p>\n

That's the natural way to think about it.<\/p>\n

I bet even the government doesn't know, right??<\/p>\n

You mean the rust-preventive oil lasts about 10 years!?<\/p>\n

I did it for the first time at this study session, too!!!<\/p>\n

The design still incorporates rust-preventive oil.<\/p>\n

Even though I know the rust-preventive oil will stop working in 10 years, lol<\/p>\n

I really wish they'd stop including rust-preventative oil in the design already, so,<\/p>\n

Design consultants should not kowtow to materials manufacturersDo not adopt this design<\/span><\/strong><\/span>I'd like to have one.<\/p>\n

It really seems to be becoming a prime example of wasted public funds... (Am I exaggerating? lol)<\/p>\n

Manufacturers who understand this are switching to systems (materials) that allow them to manage it.<\/p>\n

\"Head<\/p>\n

I fully understand that proper oil maintenance is essential for the anchor heads used in ground anchor construction, but,<\/p>\n

Do you need oil for the head cap on a rebar inserter?? lol<\/p>\n

The rebar is galvanized, and the galvanized coating alone lasts for over 50 years.<\/p>\n

In a previous survey, over 60% of respondents said it wasn't necessary. (See survey results on the TOP screen.)<\/p>\n

Those days are behind us now, aren't they?<\/p>\n

If I don't need something, I don't need it.<\/p>\n

It's best to use a flat-top-style finish that doesn't require oil, isn't it?<\/p>\n

If you're a rebar inserter who may never be responsible for maintenance throughout the structure's lifespan, then,<\/p>\n

This means that materials with a short service life should not be used in public works projects.<\/p>\n
