This is the method for pouring concrete using the rebar insertion technique described above.<\/p>\n

Well, since we pour concrete in one spot per 2 m\u00b2, it\u2019s not likely to collapse.<\/p>\n

This is something I've also come to realize through experience.<\/p>\n

They said that\u2019s how the specs ended up looking like the ones above, but in reality, it was much simpler than that lol<\/p>\n

The other day, I attended a study session hosted by an association.<\/p>\n

During the event, I had the opportunity to hear from the person who developed this empirical method.<\/p>\n

One drainage pipe was installed per 2 square meters of sprayed mortar.<\/p>\n

If we pour the concrete with the rebar in place while we're at it, it'll look nice\u2014so wouldn't one spot per 2 m\u00b2 be enough!?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In reality, there is absolutely no basis for this, and<\/p>\n

Apparently, the reasoning was that since I had about 10 years of experience as a rebar installer at the Japan Highway Public Corporation prior to that, I would be fine.<\/p>\n

Even now, I figure it must be okay since they're still using that method for construction, so I guess it's fine.<\/p>\n

Well, since the person who decided that is the one saying it, it\u2019s probably true, but it\u2019s really interesting, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

People who have gone through all sorts of experiments and experiences eventually take the plunge and make a decision, and that\u2019s what ends up riding the wave of the times.<\/p>\n

Sometimes things like this get decided not just based on theory or experience, but just on a whim.<\/p>\n

I thought that was interesting.<\/p>\n

He also said that while there is a theory behind it, there are some things he just doesn't understand at all.<\/p>\n

Even if it\u2019s explained in a complicated way in books now, you\u2019d be totally blown away if you knew that\u2019s what it was all about in the beginning, lol.<\/p>\n

Civil engineering really is an engineering discipline based on experience, isn't it?<\/p>\n

Part of what makes civil engineering so interesting lies in its roots in design.<\/p>\n
