In a structure,<b>Buckling<\/b>The load that causes the phenomenon in that structure\u2019s<b>Buckling<\/b>It is called a load. <b>Buckling<\/b>The load depends on the structure's rigidity and shape, and may occur even at levels below the material's strength.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LC20lb\"><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/ja.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%E5%BA%A7%E5%B1%88\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buckling \u2013 Wikipedia<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>For example, suppose a skid-mounted drilling rig is mounted on single-tube scaffolding.<\/p>\n<p>This refers to a situation where a single pipe bends or breaks when the load exceeds its buckling strength.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, to prevent this skid-mounted drilling rig from breaking when it\u2019s loaded onto the truck, the only options are to pack the single pipes tightly together or to increase the drilling rig\u2019s footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, it means that if the contact area is large enough, buckling won\u2019t occur. (This is commonly referred to as the bearing area.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The other day, I went to a cell phone store to get my iPhone screen replaced because it was cracked (the third time since last year).<\/p>\n<p>Even the shop clerk seemed to be thinking, \u201cNot again!?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I used to really like applied mechanics. (I still do, though lol.)<\/p>\n<p>I used to love calculating buckling, uniformly distributed loads, concentrated loads, and simple beams.<\/p>\n<p>Based on my experience, here's what happens when a screen cracks!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-39550\" src=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/6b5cd8e1ca92fd9d49dfff316fc89c18-600x460.jpg\" alt=\"Reasons Why Screens Crack\" width=\"600\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/6b5cd8e1ca92fd9d49dfff316fc89c18.jpg 600w, https:\/\/norimen.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/6b5cd8e1ca92fd9d49dfff316fc89c18-300x230.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It breaks because the corner of your phone applies a concentrated load to a single point on the glass surface!<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the corner of my cell phone was cracked, too. (Every time.)<\/p>\n<p>When a load is applied to the corner, the glass surface buckles and breaks.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed that this result is due to the fact that the glass itself is made of high-strength material.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>People often put on those super-hard 9H glass screen protectors, right?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s actually incredibly strong when it comes to withstanding loads on the surface of the glass! That\u2019s because it has a large contact area!<\/p>\n<p>But even that high-strength glass will shatter with a single blow if you hit it at the corner, right?<\/p>\n<p>You know those videos on YouTube and stuff where they stick a nail into the surface or saw back and forth, like, \u201cSee? It\u2019s fine, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Actually, that's not really a big deal.<\/p>\n<p>It makes sense if you calculate the smartphone's weight and the acceleration due to gravity based on its landing position when it falls, and then apply a concentrated load to a single point on the smartphone's surface!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 150%;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Force (N) = Mass (kg) \u00d7 Acceleration (m\/sec<sup>2<\/sup>)<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>That phone will probably break, lol.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, when you drop your smartphone, a resin-based screen protector is better than a glass one because it provides more resilience when the glass surface is about to shatter (resin-based protectors don't break).<\/p>\n<p>...and I think that might be a good idea because it seems like it would allow the force to be dissipated (by the resin film bending).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full protecting your smartphone, it\u2019s all about the corners!<\/p>\n<p>How to Defend the Corner!<\/p>\n<p>That's exactly it!!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large option!<\/p>\n<p>I'm installing a bumper, but the inside has been hollowed out (to absorb impact).<\/p>\n<p>Whether it falls on its side or upright, it definitely won't break, right?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, there is just one problem.<\/p>\n<p>If there are sharp pieces of gravel or similar objects on the surface when it falls, there\u2019s a high probability it will crack due to a concentrated load!<\/p>\n<p>If it falls normally, there's no problem at all!<\/p>\n<p>But it's so uncool... and it's huge...<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I think about it this way, I guess it\u2019s better not to have a cell phone... because I\u2019d just end up dropping it, lol.<\/p>\n<p>I don't like wearing it around my neck because it makes my shoulders stiff, but I don't want to take it off either...<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I really hope microchipping becomes more widespread soon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>See you
